There is no separate JIPMER MBBS entrance exam. NRI students targeting JIPMER Puducherry or JIPMER Karaikal in 2027 should prepare for the NEET UG exam pattern, because JIPMER MBBS admission is based on NEET rank followed by MCC counselling.
For students studying in the USA, UK, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Singapore or another country, understanding the NEET paper format early is especially important. AP, IB, A-level, IGCSE and other international curricula may teach science differently, but the student will still sit the same NEET paper as other eligible candidates.
2027 note: the official NEET UG 2027 bulletin should be checked when released. The preparation framework below uses the current NEET structure of 180 compulsory questions in 180 minutes.

Older NEET pages may still show a 200-question paper in which students attempted 180 questions using Section A and Section B. That format is outdated. Under the current structure, the paper contains 180 compulsory questions. Students do not choose 10 out of 15 optional questions in Section B.

For an NRI student, the exam pattern creates three practical preparation challenges: speed, NCERT alignment and negative marking.
USA-based students can first compare their school coverage using NEET Syllabus Gap for U.S. High School Students.
NTA does not prescribe a subject-wise time split. Students should test different orders and build a strategy based on accuracy and personal strengths. A planning example for mocks could be:

Important: this is a practice framework, not an official NTA time allocation. Students should adjust it using full-length mock data.
Biology carries 360 of the 720 marks, so it has the largest impact on the final NEET score. NRI students studying AP Biology, IB Biology or A-level Biology should not rely only on their school textbooks.

Many NRI students are more familiar with computer-based tests than OMR-based entrance exams. OMR practice should therefore be part of preparation, not something left for exam day.

Does JIPMER have a separate exam pattern in 2027?
No. JIPMER MBBS admission is through NEET UG, so students should follow the NEET exam pattern.
How many questions are there in the current NEET pattern?
The current pattern has 180 compulsory questions: 45 Physics, 45 Chemistry and 90 Biology.
Is NEET still 3 hours 20 minutes?
No. The current duration is 180 minutes, or 3 hours.
Is Section B still optional?
No. The older Section A/Section B choice structure is no longer the current format.
Is the NEET paper different for NRI students?
No. Eligible NRI students take the same NEET examination. Their additional challenges are usually curriculum alignment, documents, travel and counselling planning.
Should a U.S. student practise OMR sheets?
Yes. Students accustomed to digital school tests should practise full OMR-based mocks before the exam.
Does JIPMER have a separate NRI quota?
The latest JIPMER seat structure does not show a separate NRI quota. NRI students should prepare to compete through the applicable MCC category if eligible.
