The NEET 2027 Biology syllabus covers the major Class 11 and Class 12 Biology units required for NEET UG preparation. It includes diversity, cell biology, plant physiology, human physiology, reproduction, genetics, biotechnology, human welfare, ecology and environment.
Biology carries the largest share of the NEET paper, with 90 questions and 360 marks under the current exam structure. Students should therefore combine line-by-line NCERT revision with diagrams, terminology, repeated MCQ practice and regular full-syllabus revision.

Class 11 Biology builds the foundation for NEET Biology. Students should understand classification, cellular processes, plant physiology and human physiology while revising NCERT terminology carefully.
UNIT 1: Diversity in Living World
Biodiversity, classification, taxonomy and systematics, five-kingdom classification, major plant groups, animal classification, viruses, viroids and lichens.
UNIT 2: Structural Organisation in Animals and Plants
Morphology, anatomy and functions of flowering plants, plant tissues, animal tissues and structural organisation of representative organisms.
UNIT 3: Cell Structure and Function
Cell theory, prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, cell organelles, biomolecules, enzymes, cell cycle, mitosis and meiosis.
UNIT 4: Plant Physiology
Photosynthesis, respiration, plant growth and development, plant hormones, seed dormancy, vernalisation and photoperiodism.
UNIT 5: Human Physiology
Breathing and respiration, circulation, excretion, locomotion, neural control, endocrine coordination and major related disorders.

Class 12 Biology focuses on reproduction, genetics, evolution, biotechnology, human welfare and ecology. These topics require repeated NCERT revision because NEET Biology often depends on precise terminology, diagrams and factual distinctions.
UNIT 6: Reproduction
Reproduction in flowering plants, human reproduction, gametogenesis, menstrual cycle, fertilisation, pregnancy, reproductive health and assisted reproduction.
UNIT 7: Genetics and Evolution
Mendelian inheritance, variation, chromosome theory, molecular basis of inheritance, DNA and RNA, genetic code, evolution and population genetics.
UNIT 8: Biology and Human Welfare
Human diseases, immunity, vaccines, cancer, HIV/AIDS, microbes in human welfare, sewage treatment, biofertilizers and biocontrol.
UNIT 9: Biotechnology and Its Applications
Recombinant DNA technology, genetic engineering, biotechnology in health and agriculture, GM organisms, biosafety, patents and biopiracy.
UNIT 10: Ecology and Environment
Organisms and populations, ecological interactions, ecosystems, energy flow, nutrient cycles, succession, biodiversity and conservation.
AP Biology, IB Biology and U.S. high-school Biology can provide strong conceptual preparation, but they may not match the full NEET syllabus or the level of NCERT-specific detail required. USA-based students should compare every Biology unit above with their school curriculum and fill any gaps early.

How many Biology questions are there in NEET 2027?
Biology has 90 questions for 360 marks under the current NEET structure.
Is NCERT enough for NEET Biology?
NCERT is the most important base for Biology, but students should also practise NEET-style MCQs, previous-year questions, diagrams and timed revision tests.
Should I study both Class 11 and Class 12 Biology?
Yes. NEET Biology draws from both Class 11 and Class 12 units, so students should complete and revise the full syllabus.
Does AP Biology cover the complete NEET Biology syllabus?
No. AP Biology can provide a strong conceptual base, but NEET students still need to cover NCERT-specific detail and units that may not be fully included in AP Biology.
