NRI students planning MBBS admission at JIPMER in 2027 need to understand two separate questions: Is the student eligible to compete for JIPMER? and Does JIPMER offer a separate NRI quota? These are not the same thing.
JIPMER MBBS admission is through NEET UG followed by MCC counselling. The current JIPMER admission structure uses Open seats and Puducherry UT domicile seats rather than a dedicated JIPMER NRI quota. 2027 planning note: JIPMER has already published MBBS admission material for the 2026-27 academic year. The NEET/MCC/JIPMER 2027 admission bulletin and final 2027 seat matrix should be checked when released before a family treats any seat count, category rule or document requirement as final.

No separate NRI quota is shown in the current JIPMER MBBS seat structure. This is the most important correction to the older content on this page. Older references that list a fixed number of JIPMER NRI/OCI seats should not be used for 2027 planning.
The latest published JIPMER seat pattern has been structured around Open seats and Puducherry UT domicile seats. MCC then applies the applicable reservation roster to the seat matrix. NRI status by itself does not create a separate seat pool at JIPMER.

The official JIPMER 2025-26 prospectus listed 182 MBBS seats at JIPMER Puducherry and 61 MBBS seats at JIPMER Karaikal. Those totals were divided between Open and Puducherry UT domicile seats, not a dedicated NRI category. The 2027 matrix can change, so use these only as a historical benchmark.
