NEET allotment rounds 1, 2, 3 for NRI students

This is not today’s Round 1 PDF. It is how seat allotment behaves as MCC counselling moves from Round 1 through Round 2, Round 3 and Stray Vacancy, so a US-based NRI family can set a realistic cutoff band before their own round.

In the last completed MCC cycle, NEET UG 2025 Round 1, 26,608 seats were allotted. About 83 percent were MBBS. If you need one round’s live result, open that round’s own page. Stay here for the pattern across rounds.

Round-by-round table: MCC NEET UG 2025, the last full cycle with Round 1 through Stray Vacancy published. Last read 19 September 2026. 2027 dates and seat counts will move.

Rounds, Freeze or Float, or a state NRI door

Ask TestprepKart before the next MCC clock

Send the student’s NEET year, likely AIR band, and whether you are watching MCC, a state NRI list, or both. Use a US number if you want the call in a California or New Jersey evening window.

Pattern page
not a live PDF

What this page is for, stated plainly

NRI parents living in the US usually land here after a rank, a Google search for cutoff, or a relative in India saying “wait for Round 2.” The useful answer is not a single closing AIR. It is how the pool, the college mix, and the Freeze or Float risk change as each round runs.

What this page covers

Round-by-round movement from the last completed MCC cycle (NEET UG 2025), the Round 1 course split we already published, where NRI-relevant seats concentrate, Freeze versus Float risk by round, MCC versus state calendars, and mistakes we see on counselling calls. It is not a 2027 cutoff list and not a substitute for mcc.nic.in.

Authority MCC plus states

MCC runs 15 percent All India Quota, deemed universities, AIIMS, JIPMER and the NRI rows that sit on its matrix. State NRI seats have their own portal.

Cycle used for numbers NEET UG 2025

Last full Round 1 through Stray Vacancy. 2026 Round 1 was still a live result story. Do not mix those two years in one cutoff sentence.

Use 2025 as a pattern. Recheck MCC’s live matrix and schedule the year your child actually reports.

Round 1, last completed cycle

26,608 allotted seats, and why MBBS still dominates the conversation

MCC’s Round 1 result notice for NEET UG 2025 put 26,608 allotted candidates on the list. Our course-wise count of that Round 1 list, the figure we already published for families, is below. Other write-ups split BDS and Nursing a few seats differently. The total is the same. We are not going to invent a third split.

Course Seats in Round 1 list Share
MBBS 22,149 about 83 percent
BDS 3,980 about 15 percent
B.Sc Nursing 479 about 2 percent
Total 26,608 100 percent

On that same Round 1 list, the NRI-category row was about 548 seats (about 2 percent). That is a true NRI quota count, not the 15 percent All India Quota. A US-based NRI applicant who treats AIQ as “the NRI 15 percent” is reading the wrong door. Read the quota column on the allotment letter, not the passport.

Section 2

Round by round seat movement, in one table

Families ask whether it gets harder or easier after Round 1. MCC does not always publish one comparable “allotted total” for every later round in the same press-note format as Round 1. What it does publish, and what we can stand behind for 2025, is this mix of allotted counts and vacancy-pool notices. Do not add the rows together. They are different kinds of number.

Round Last published 2025 figure What kind of number What a US family should take from it
Round 1 26,608 allotted Allotment count (MCC Round 1 result notice, August 2025) First fill of the published matrix. This is the round whose course and state split we already counted.
Round 2 1,134 newly added seats, 7,088 virtual vacancies, 13,501 open seats in the published pool Seat pool on MCC’s Round 2 matrix notices, not the same as “allotted” The list you chose in Round 1 is stale. Virtual vacancy means a seat that may open if the holder upgrades. It is not a guaranteed empty chair.
Round 3 4,821 clear vacancies, 10,737 virtual vacancies, 139 newly added seats Seat pool on MCC’s Round 3 matrix notices A smaller, jumpy pool. Build the choice list from this round’s PDF, not from a Round 1 screenshot.
Stray Vacancy 1,129 provisionally allotted; 1,232 AIQ seats reported vacant going in Allotment count plus vacancy going into the last online fill (MCC stray result, November 2025) Last MCC online round. Smaller than Round 1 by an order of magnitude. If allotted, joining is expected.

Read that table as a pattern, not a 2027 promise. Round 1 is a large first fill. Later rounds are mostly vacancy, upgrade, and a few newly added seats. Stray Vacancy is a leftover pool, not a second Round 1.

Section 3

What kind of colleges typically move in each round

This is the piece a rank-only cutoff page never says. In past MCC cycles we have watched the same shape, including 2025. It is an observed pattern. It is not guaranteed for 2027.

Round 1 Sought-after government and top private seats

AIIMS, JIPMER Open, and the government AIQ names US families screenshot first usually fill here. If the mock AIR will not hold those closes, do not wait for Round 3 to “open AIIMS.”

Round 2 Mid-tier movement, plus upgrades

Students who got a better seat elsewhere vacate a Round 1 lock. Mid-tier government and private options tend to move. Fresh registrants also arrive, so it is not only the float pool.

Round 3 Deemed, paid, and NRI rows

Later rounds tend to show more movement on deemed-university and NRI-category seats. The fee bill is the constraint, not a hidden government chair.

Stray Vacancy Leftovers, join or forfeit

Only add colleges the family will actually report to in IST, with funds ready. A stray allotment you will not join is usually a lost deposit, not a free look.

Section 4

Freeze or Float, and why the round you are in changes the risk

Freeze means you keep the allotted seat and do not ask for an upgrade. Float means you keep that seat for now and ask the next round to try a higher choice. Free Exit in Round 1 means you do not join that Round 1 seat. MCC has usually allowed Round 1 Free Exit without taking the security deposit. Confirm the live notice. We will not freeze that rule as eternal.

For 2026 counselling MCC split the reporting path: a Freeze candidate physically joins the institute, while a Float candidate can submit willingness and documents online for that upgrade stage. Both still upload scans on the MCC portal. Recheck the year you actually sit, because process notes move.

If you float in… What you still have behind you The call we actually make with NRI parents living in the US
Round 1 Round 2, Round 3, then Stray Vacancy Floating is often rational if the seat is a genuine backup and the family can still join it if nothing better comes. Do not float a campus you will refuse on fee or city.
Round 2 Round 3, then Stray Vacancy The pool now includes new registrants. Recheck documents. Some lists change between rounds. Do not assume Round 1 NRI approval covers a new state portal.
Round 3 Only Stray Vacancy That leftover pool is much smaller. Floating a usable Round 3 NRI or deemed seat “just in case” is how families lose a joinable college and then find Stray Vacancy empty for their budget.

IST reporting clocks do not wait for a US school night. If a Freeze needs physical joining, book the person who can reach campus. NRI parents living in California or New Jersey who wait for a morning email have missed reporting windows in past cycles.

Section 5

MCC rounds versus state counselling, side by side

MCC is not the only clock. State NRI seats, Category C rows, and private-college state lists run on that state’s portal. Registering on MCC does not enrol the student in Karnataka KEA, Tamil Nadu Selection Committee, or Telangana KNRUHS.

Last published 2025 example, used here as a pattern, not as 2027 dates. MCC’s revised Round 1 reporting window sat 9 to 18 August 2025. After the AIQ result, Karnataka KEA ran its own Round 1 choice window 14 to 16 August 2025, fee payment through 18 August, college reporting by 19 August. A family watching only mcc.nic.in could still miss a KEA freeze-and-pay step in the same week.

2025 window (last published) MCC All India / deemed / AIIMS / JIPMER Karnataka KEA (example state)
Round 1 reporting / choice Institute reporting 9 to 18 August 2025 on the MCC revised schedule Choice 14 to 16 August, fee by 18 August, reporting by 19 August 2025
What that overlap means You may be flying for an MCC Freeze in IST You may also owe a state NRI fee confirmation the same week

2027 will republish both calendars. Put both URLs in one folder: mcc.nic.in and the state authority you actually need. For Karnataka and Tamil Nadu NRI rows, start from our state pages, not from a forwarded WhatsApp date.

Section 6

What actually changes about the applicant pool each round

Round 2 is not simply “the Round 1 float pool trying again.” MCC’s counselling scheme lets candidates who did not register in Round 1 enter in Round 2. If they are not allotted there, they can usually continue to Round 3 without registering a third time. Confirm the live bulletin. The point for a US-based NRI applicant is simple: new money and new ranks walk in.

Two other pool changes we actually see. First, virtual vacancies: a seat still held by someone who asked for an upgrade. It may or may not empty. Do not treat the virtual list as a shopping catalogue. Second, newly added seats after a college or course is notified late. Those lines did not exist on your Round 1 choice list. Fresh choice filling is not optional when MCC asks for it.

Allotment is still AIR plus eligible quota plus the order of your choices plus what is actually vacant in that round. Scores alone do not allocate an NRI seat. Category approval is not an allotment. The letter has to show institute, course and allotted quota.

Where the Round 1 seats actually sat

South and West take the bulk. East and North East are not the NRI shopping list.

On the same 2025 Round 1 list, allotments concentrated where the private and deemed density is. That is a checkable pattern, not a slogan.

State / UT in the Round 1 count Seats allotted Why it shows up on NRI calls
Tamil Nadu 4,451 Largest share. Government AIQ plus a thick deemed and private layer.
Maharashtra 4,000 Government plus private mix. West-India density.
Karnataka 3,508 Large private and deemed sector. A real NRI counselling geography.
Uttar Pradesh 1,684 Big state, thinner private or deemed density than TN or Karnataka on this list.
Puducherry 1,157 Small UT, JIPMER plus several deemed campuses. Not a small choice list.
Odisha 1,133 Mostly government contribution on this count.
Telangana 1,025 Growing private and Category C conversation on a different portal.
Delhi (NCT) 985 Few colleges, central intake. High-score geography, not an NRI paid row.

Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Karnataka together were about one third of that Round 1 list. North-East states and small UTs usually contribute a single government college’s AIQ handful. Jammu and Kashmir government colleges sit outside AIQ, so that count was zero on this national list.

For NRI parents living in the US, that geography is the counselling map: South and West for paid and NRI-category density, Delhi and the INIs for Open merit, East and North East only if the student can actually hold those few AIQ ranks. Do not build a 2027 choice list as if every state sells the same NRI product.

Section 7

Mistakes we see across multiple rounds, not generic advice

Treating a Round 1 rank as a Round 3 forecast

The college mix changes. New candidates enter. Virtual vacancies may not empty. A Round 1 close is a Round 1 close. We do not translate it into a Round 3 promise on the phone, and you should not do that at the kitchen table.

Not rechecking documents between rounds

MCC NRI verification is not a lifetime stamp for every state portal. Relationship, affidavit and sponsor papers can be asked again. A PwD or category file error has already forced MCC to revise a provisional list in a later cycle. Recheck the round’s notice.

Waiting until the last day to Freeze or Float

US-to-India flights, wire transfers, and a relative who can stand in a reporting queue do not book on MCC’s last afternoon. Decide while there is still an IST working day left.

Watching only MCC while a state NRI fee is due

Two calendars. Two logins. Two security deposits in some years. The 2025 Karnataka overlap is the example. 2027 will have its own version.

Calling 15 percent AIQ the NRI quota

It is a nationwide government pool. NRI or OCI candidates may compete there on Open merit. A reserved NRI row is a different matrix line, often on a deemed campus, billed as a paid seat.

Mixing MBBS and BDS into one cutoff story

About 15 percent of that 26,608 were BDS. A BDS allotment is not an MBBS close. Do not average them.

Putting unaffordable deemed names “just to see”

Later rounds can allot them. Reporting and a first-year NRI bill can be due immediately. If the family will not pay, do not list the college.

Skipping fresh choice filling

When MCC asks for a new list, the old one may not carry forward. Round 3 especially: build from that round’s vacancy PDF.

Watch the process once, then use the table

MCC counselling, in the order a parent actually faces it

TestprepKart MCC counselling process for NRI candidates

Use this beside the round table, not instead of MCC’s own PDF. Registration, NRI documents, choice order, then Freeze or Float. The video will not replace the live notice.

Section 8

How TestprepKart sits on a multi-round file

The value of this page is the round pattern. Counselling support, if you want it, is for the uncertainty that pattern creates: which portal you are actually on, whether a Float still leaves a joinable seat, and whether a deemed NRI row is in budget before it appears in Round 3. We will not pretend a previous closing rank is a 2027 allotment.

If the student is still in a US high school, the honest lever is NEET score across 2027, not a Round 3 miracle. That work is the USA coaching page, not a last-week choice list.

Questions families actually ask

FAQ

Is this page today’s Round 1, Round 2 or Round 3 result?

No. This page explains how allotment behaves as counselling moves from Round 1 through Round 2, Round 3 and Stray Vacancy. Live result PDFs sit on MCC. Use this page to set expectations before your own round.

Does counselling get easier after Round 1?

Not in a simple way. In past MCC cycles the most sought after government and top private seats usually fill in Round 1. Round 2 often opens mid-tier options when students vacate a Round 1 seat. Round 3 and Stray Vacancy tend to show more movement in deemed university and NRI-category seats. Observed pattern, not a 2027 promise.

Can new candidates enter MCC Round 2?

Yes. MCC’s scheme allows fresh registration in Round 2. Round 2 is not only the Round 1 float pool. New names change the odds, especially on paid and NRI rows that US families actually use.

Is the 15 percent All India Quota the NRI quota?

No. The 15 percent All India Quota is a nationwide government-college pool run by MCC. It is not a 15 percent NRI reserve. A true NRI-category seat is a separate row on the MCC or state matrix.

Do MCC rounds and state counselling move on the same calendar?

No. In 2025, MCC Round 1 reporting sat in mid-August while Karnataka KEA still had its own Round 1 choice and fee window in the same week. Watching only mcc.nic.in can miss a state NRI fee or document date.

Section 9

Last verified, and why next year will not copy-paste

Round 1 allotted total 26,608, course split MBBS 22,149 / BDS 3,980 / B.Sc Nursing 479, NRI-category row about 548, and the state table (Tamil Nadu 4,451, Maharashtra 4,000, Karnataka 3,508 and the rest) come from our count of the MCC NEET UG 2025 Round 1 allotment list, last read 19 September 2026. MCC’s Round 1 result notice is the source of the 26,608 total.

Round 2 and Round 3 rows in the movement table are MCC vacancy-pool figures from that same 2025 cycle (newly added, virtual and clear vacancies), not a second 26,608-style allotted total, because MCC did not publish those later rounds in the same one-line format. Stray Vacancy: 1,129 provisionally allotted, with 1,232 AIQ seats reported vacant going in, November 2025 MCC stray result.

Karnataka KEA versus MCC dates are the 2025 revised Round 1 overlap (MCC reporting 9 to 18 August, KEA choice 14 to 16 August). 2027 will issue new notices. Seat counts, Freeze or Float rules, and state calendars shift year to year. Once MCC publishes the live 2027 matrix, use that file, not this table, to lock choices.
