This 2027 planning page uses the latest official NIRF Medical ranking currently available and 2026 counselling data. NRI status does not automatically create a separate NRI quota in every government medical college. The last eligibility for the year 2027, seat matrix, fees, and cutoffs will have to be checked once the admission authorities release their notifications.

Data note: NIRF values take into account the latest ranking provided by the NIRF Medical 2025. The IRF cutoffs indicated are for planning purposes for the 2026 round 1 General/Open. Fees mentioned are published references, which may differ on the basis of factors like academic fees, payment at time of admission, or annual tuition.
The NIRF ranking shouldn’t be your sole basis for selecting a college. While the lower NIRF rank helps you compare institutions, there are other factors that need to be considered, such as NEET AIR, counselling eligibility, route of admission, clinical experience, costs, and location.
As per the recent NIRF Medical ranking table released, AIIMS New Delhi ranks first position in India, while the rest government/public medical colleges include JIPMER Puducherry, BHU, KGMU, and AIIMS Rishikesh.
Important: The ranking of medical schools done by NIRF also comprises those institutions apart from MBBS Colleges. The ranking has been kept out of this page as it is concerning MBBS colleges.

Governments' medical colleges cost a lot less than private or deemed universities, but each institution has a different way of charging for fees. Some of the numbers below are total costs during admission time, and some of them are per-year costs.

Use this as a shortlist guide, not a universal ranking. There is no harm in choosing a lower-ranked college due to reasons like place, family, counseling eligibility, language, hostel preference, etc.
Abhi is a Grade 12 student of Indian origin, residing in Texas, who plans to pursue MBBS in India. The family wishes to know the top government colleges which will be possible for him given his NEET rank and being an NRI.
Abhi’s parents first think that Abhi’s being an NRI will make him eligible for the NRI quota available in AIIMS and other government medical colleges. Prior to listing down the colleges, they should know that just by being an NRI does not mean a separate paid NRI quota seat is available.

Also, Abhi’s family has to look into the admission process for all the colleges. The admission process for AIIMS colleges is done through MCC, while there could be some government colleges of medicine that could have their admission through AIQ. His NRIs status needs to be checked separately from the route of admission process for that seat.
In place of the “NRI Quota” search only, Abhi needs to formulate his list of colleges based on NEET AIR, past closing ranks, counseling process, category requirements, number of MBBS seats, fee, location, and individual choice. This way, the admission process becomes much more practical for his family.
There is no definite NEET rank which would ensure admission to one of the top 10 government medical colleges in 2027. The more practical way would be to categorize the last 2026 Round 1 AIRs into planning bands.

Do not treat these bands as 2027 expected cutoffs. These are merely 2026 Round 1 General/Open seats. Category, quota, exam difficulty, change in seats and counseling-round migration may result in entirely different 2027 closing ranks.

Cutoff marks may prove deceptive while comparing various cut-off scores. The treatment given to AIIMS, JIPMER, and BHU is quite different from that which is offered by other colleges like a State Government medical college like Madras Medical College or KGMU.

Practical rule: Never make comparisons between state quota cut-off marks and the 15% AIQ cut-off marks without considering the category and counselling authority. One college may give very different closing ranks for various routes.
