For 2027 planners · private and deemed NRI tuition

NRI quota fees in private medical colleges

There is no one private NRI fee. State-regulated private colleges publish rupee tuition. Several deemed universities publish dollars. Do not compare an annual figure with a batch total.

Last published 2026-27 examples: PIMS Kerala ₹21,65,720 a year. Selected Tamil Nadu self-financing ₹24,50,000. Deemed batch totals from US$148,000 (KMC Mangalore) to US$225,000 (Amrita Kochi). Government NRI rows sit on the government fee page.

How to read last-published tables

Fact-checked against 2026-27 college and state publications available in August 2026. Figures below are last published. They are not a locked 2027 price. A wider four-door compare sits on the NRI college fees page. This page stays on private and deemed NRI tuition.

Full-course private NRI commitments

Only colleges where a clear batch or tuition total was published. This is scale, not an all-in ranking. Hostel still differs by campus.

  1. KMC Mangalore US$148,000

Private college vs deemed university fees

The word private is not one counselling door. A state self-financing college and a deemed university can publish fees in different currencies and on different time bases. Named deemed campuses sit on the deemed colleges page.

State private / self-financing

Usually INR

  • Fee sits in a state schedule or college fee order.
  • Compare as annual tuition unless the notice says otherwise.
  • Hostel, mess, caution and university charges are usually extra.
Deemed university

Often USD

  • The college publishes its own NRI fee, sometimes as a batch total.
  • A first instalment is not the course cost.
  • Hostel and one-time academic charges stay off the tuition line unless the notice includes them.

Tamil Nadu ₹24,50,000

Karnataka No one average

State-private and deemed NRI fees are not the same column. KMC is not a Karnataka private average. See the Karnataka NRI page.

Andhra Pradesh ₹39.60 lakh / year

Recent Category C NRI structure. Hostel and university charges extra. See the Andhra Pradesh NRI page.

Annual fee or total MBBS fee

This is where most compares go wrong. One college shows a year. Another shows the joining instalment. Another shows the batch.

01

Annual tuition

Example: US$50,000 a year. Multiply only after you know how many academic years that published tuition covers.

02

First instalment

The amount due at joining. It is not the MBBS total and may include one-time charges.

03

Full-course / batch total

Best for a long budget. Still check whether hostel, mess and deposits sit inside that number.

A usable family budget is academic fee + hostel and mess + one-time charges + deposits + travel + bank charges.

Extras beyond private NRI tuition

The headline NRI fee is not always the amount that leaves the account.

Cost Why it matters What to check
Hostel and mess Can add a real annual amount Mandatory or optional, room type, AC, mess included or separate
One-time academic charges Makes the first year higher Admission, registration, university and academic charges
Caution / security deposit Cash is blocked at admission even if refundable Refund conditions and timeline
Currency and bank charges US families paying USD or converting to INR Transfer fee, exchange spread, permitted payment method
Travel and personal costs Not college tuition USA-India travel, local transport, devices, books

USD vs INR for USA families

Do not replace a published dollar fee with a fixed rupee conversion and then treat that rupee figure as official.

  1. Keep

    Official currency

If the university prints US$50,000, keep US$50,000 on the shortlist.

  2. Date

    Payment timing

The dollar-rupee rate can move between counselling, admission and later instalments.

  3. Wire

    Transfer costs

Bank fees and conversion spreads change the amount that actually leaves the US account.

How to shortlist by NRI fee budget

Start with the family's maximum safe course budget. Then drop colleges whose published total sits clearly above it. Do not start with a college name.

Lower band

State-private rupee seats

Look first at state-regulated private NRI rows in the low-to-mid ₹20 lakh annual range. Kerala is one compare point on this page.

Mid / higher band

₹30-40 lakh equivalent

Some state-private and deemed options sit here as annual tuition. Check hostel and how many years the published fee covers.

Premium deemed band

US$150,000 to US$225,000

USD programs can create that academic commitment. Inclusions still decide whether the family total is higher.

How TestprepKart helps

TestprepKart does not sell a private NRI seat. The desk separates a first instalment from a batch total, and a management fee from an NRI fee, before anyone treats a screenshot as final.

  1. Fee shortlisting

Colleges are compared against a realistic family budget, not against a name list.

  2. Annual vs total

First payment, annual tuition and course commitment stay in different columns.

  3. Extra-cost planning

Hostel, mess, deposits, one-time charges and US-India travel sit beside tuition.

  4. State comparison

Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra figures are not mixed into one national private average.

FAQs

What is the NRI quota fee in private medical colleges in 2026-27?

There is no single national fee. Verified examples range from about ₹21.65 lakh annual NRI tuition in a Kerala private college to around US$40,000 to US$50,000 a year at several deemed universities. Always compare the fee basis.

Are deemed university NRI fees higher than private college NRI fees?

Often, but not always. Many deemed universities publish NRI tuition in USD. Premium batch totals can sit far above state-regulated private college fees. Compare the academic commitment, not only the annual line.

Is hostel included in NRI MBBS fees?

It depends. Yenepoya's 2026 notice includes accommodation, food and AC in the published package. Amrita and the KMC campuses list hostel separately. Read the inclusions before you rank totals.

Are NRI private medical college fees paid in USD or INR?

Both exist. State private fees are commonly in INR. Several deemed universities publish NRI tuition in USD. Use the currency in the current fee schedule.

Are management quota fees and NRI quota fees the same?

Not necessarily. They are separate categories in many states. Do not use a management fee as the NRI fee unless the live schedule treats them as the same row.

Should a US parent convert every private NRI fee into INR first?

No. Keep a USD-published fee in USD. Keep an INR-published fee in INR. If you make a comparison conversion, write the exchange-rate date on that sheet.
