NEET Reservation of Seats

Following is the distribution of seats in medical colleges of India under 15% All India Quota:

• Central reservation norms are followed in the distribution of the 15% All India Quota (AIQ): 27% for OBC-NCL, 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, 10% for EWS, and 5% for PwBD in all categories.
• State/Union Territory laws govern reservation policies for State Quota (85%) seats in government and private medical colleges. The state's domicile and eligibility requirements are strictly followed for admission under these quotas.
• Reservation policies in private, deemed, and management quota colleges can vary and are governed by institutional and state laws. Certain private universities are exempt or have changed their policies to accommodate minority colleges.
• Candidates must first pass the NEET-UG in order to be admitted to Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune. After that, they must go through a second screening by AFMC, and reservations must adhere to any applicable central rules.

Reservation of seats in Medical Colleges Under State Quota and Private Medical Colleges

• The National Testing Agency (NTA) NEET (UG) 2026 ranks shall be utilized to prepare merit lists of successful candidates for the whole of India and individual States. The existing reservation policies and criteria established by the individual State Governments and Union Territories shall be adhered to rigidly while admitting students into MBBS/BDS courses.
• The reservation policy, domicile rules, and eligibility criteria announced from time to time by the concerned State/UT authorities shall control admission to Government Medical Colleges under the 85% State Quota seats. As per local laws, each State or UT could have variable distribution percentages of SC, ST, OBC, EWS, and other categories.
• The Directorate General of Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS), Ministry of Defence, Government of India, will determine the standards for admission to the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune. To be eligible to apply for AFMC, those candidates who clear NEET-UG 2026 are required to undergo a second screening, a psychological and medical assessment.
• Subject to the prevailing laws and regulations of every State or Union Territory, seats in medical and dental colleges shall remain reserved for candidates belonging to particular categories, like SC, ST, OBC, EWS, and PwBD.

For NRIs

• NRI and OCI students are eligible for seats in the 15% All India Quota (AIQ) and in deemed universities, and specific state medical colleges, but they are not covered by the SC/ST/OBC or EWS reservation schemes.
• Only NEET-UG merit and legitimate NRI documentation, such as sponsorship or embassy certificates, are taken into consideration for admission.
• Under the NRI quota, seat distribution for this category is overseen by the MCC (for Deemed Universities) and the appropriate State DME authorities for private colleges.
