FAQ’s (Frequently Asked Questions) For JIPMER Admission:

Q1. How can I get admission for M.B.B.S in JIPMER for the year 2026?

To get admission for M.B.B.S in JIPMER for 2026 and onwards, you must appear for and qualify the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG). The separate JIPMER entrance exam has been discontinued. You will need to secure a very high All India Rank (AIR) in NEET-UG and then participate in the online counseling conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) to be allotted a seat at a JIPMER campus.

Q2. Who is eligible for JIPMER admission in 2026?

Eligibility for a JIPMER seat is determined by the eligibility criteria for the NEET-UG exam. Key criteria are:

• Nationality: Indian Nationals, Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCI), Persons of Indian Origin (PIO), and Foreign Nationals are eligible.
• Age: You must have completed 17 years of age on or before December 31st of the year of admission.
• Academic Qualification: You must have passed the Class 12 or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as core subjects.

Q3. What is the minimum percentage of marks required for NEET-UG 2026 by candidates based on their caste category?

The minimum percentage required in the qualifying examination (Class 12 or equivalent) to be eligible for NEET-UG is:

• General / EWS: 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
• OBC/ SC/ ST: 40% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
• Persons with Disabilities (PwD): 45% for General-PwD and 40% for reserved category-PwD.

Additionally, to qualify for counseling, you must score above the minimum qualifying percentile in the NEET-UG exam itself, which is announced by NTA along with the results.

Q4. What is the scoring pattern & rule for negative marks?

The scoring pattern is based on the NEET-UG exam:

• Correct Answer: +4 marks.
• Incorrect Answer: -1 mark (negative marking).
• Unanswered Question: 0 marks. The total marks for the exam are 720.

Q5. Where should I submit my application form?

You must submit your application form for the NEET-UG exam online through the official website of the National Testing Agency (NTA). Applications are not submitted to JIPMER directly. Keep an eye on the official NTA website (neet.nta.nic.in) for the release of the 2026 application forms.

Q6. What are the NEET-UG 2026 Exam Centers in the North Zone?

There are no longer separate "JIPMER Exam Centers." You will be appearing at a NEET-UG exam center. The NTA has a vast network of test centers across all states in India, including the North Zone (e.g., Delhi, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Jaipur, etc.), and also in several international cities, which is convenient for NRI students.

The specific and final list of exam cities for 2026 will be released by the NTA in the official NEET-UG Information Bulletin. You can choose your preferred cities during the application process. The exact list for 2026 is not yet available and will be updated closer to the exam date.

Q7. Are there specific seats reserved for NRI students at JIPMER?

Yes, JIPMER has a designated number of seats for NRI/OCI candidates under the Self Financing Scheme (SFS). To be considered for these seats, you must qualify the NEET-UG exam and apply specifically under this category during the MCC counseling. The fees for SFS seats are substantially higher than for regular seats.

Q8. What NEET rank is required to get into JIPMER?

JIPMER is a premier institution, and admission is extremely competitive. For a general category student, a NEET All India Rank (AIR) within the top 300 is usually necessary to secure a seat. The exact cutoff rank varies each year depending on the exam's difficulty and applicant performance.

Q9. Is the syllabus for JIPMER admission different from the NEET syllabus?

No, the syllabus is now identical to the official NEET-UG syllabus prescribed by the NTA. You should focus completely on the Class 11 and 12 curriculum for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, primarily based on NCERT textbooks. The old JIPMER syllabus, which included English and Logical Reasoning, is no longer relevant.

Q10. What is the counseling process for JIPMER after the NEET result?

After qualifying NEET, you must register for online counseling on the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) website (mcc.nic.in). During the choice-filling round, you can list JIPMER Puducherry or JIPMER Karaikal as your preferred colleges. Seats are allotted based on your NEET rank, choices filled, and reservation category.
