DASA CIWG is one of the major admission channels for NRI students from the Gulf countries who wish to get admission in NITs, IIITs, SPAs, IIEST Shibpur, Other-GFTIs, and other participating technical institutes in India.
CIWG is the Children of Indian Workers in Gulf. This is a separate category under DASA for eligible NRI students where the parent is or was employed in an eligible Gulf country.
CIWG provides two main benefits to many NRI families living in the Gulf. These are reserved seats in DASA and lower tuition fees than the regular DASA Non-SAARC category.

CIWG is not a separate entrance exam. It is a special seat category within the DASA counselling process.
For DASA 2026, the following Gulf countries are considered under the CIWG category:

Students whose parent is working or has worked in one of these countries may be considered for CIWG subject to document verification and DASA eligibility rules.

Students should not assume that being a Gulf country resident automatically makes them eligible for CIWG. The work proof, visa, work permit and company certificate of the parent are extremely important.

DASA CIWG has two major advantages for eligible NRI students.

These two benefits make CIWG very important for Gulf-based Indian families planning engineering admission in India.
The Institutes participating under DASA have supernumerary seats up to 15%. CIWG candidates are entitled to 5% seats within this DASA quota. In simple terms, CIWG is entitled to one third of the DASA seats.

For many parents in UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, Iraq and Iran, this fee difference is a major benefit.
Eligible CIWG students may also elect to be considered for Non-CIWG DASA seats.
This is helpful to a student who wishes to improve his chances of getting admission by keeping both CIWG and Non-CIWG options open during choice filling.

Students can arrange both types of choices according to their preference. The order of choices matters in the final allotment.
As per official DASA rules, CIWG seats can be converted to Non-CIWG seats if left vacant.
That means CIWG seats will go mainly to eligible CIWG candidates. Vacant seats not filled within the applicable process may be moved to the regular DASA Non-CIWG pool.
Students of CIWG can apply for the academic programs available under DASA provided they fulfill the eligibility criteria of JEE Main paper and the institute-wise seat matrix.
