JEE Main 2026 Overview
JEE Main 2026 overview provides insight into the upcoming Joint Entrance Examination Main. It highlights the exam’s structure and importance as a gateway for aspiring engineering students. The subjects tested are the same: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics. There are three papers conducted by NTA:

JEE Main 2026 Eligibility Criteria
- Educational Qualification: Must have passed Class 12 / equivalent in 2024 or 2025, or be appearing in 2026.
- Subjects Required:
• For B.E./B.Tech: Physics + Mathematics + one of Chemistry/Biology/Biotechnology/Technical Vocational subjects.
• For B.Arch: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry.
• For B.Planning: Mathematics compulsory.
- Age Limit: No upper age limit. Candidates of any age may appear.
- Number of Attempts: Can appear in two sessions per year. Eligible for three consecutive years from passing class 12 (or year of appearing). Thus, total attempts = up to six across sessions over those years.
- Class 12 / Qualifying Exam Marks: There is no minimum percentage requirement to appear in JEE Main. But for admission to NITs / IIITs / GFTIs etc., General / OBC / EWS candidates need 75% in Class 12 or be in top 20 percentile; SC / ST candidates need 65%.
JEE Main 2026 Exam Pattern
- Mode: Computer-Based Test (online) for most parts; Drawing section in Paper 2A (B.Arch) remains offline.
- Papers: Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech), Paper 2A (B.Arch), Paper 2B (B.Planning)
- Paper 1 (BE/BTech): 75 compulsory questions total (25 per subject: 20 MCQs + 5 Numerical Value Questions), duration 3 hours. Negative marking for wrong answers.
- Paper 2A / Paper 2B: Usually 400 marks each. Paper 2A includes a Drawing test; 2B includes Planning-based questions. The exact number of questions for each section to be officially announced.
- Languages: Available in 13 languages (English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu) plus regional where applicable.
JEE Main 2026 Syllabus
The syllabus remains based on NCERT Classes 11 & 12 subjects for Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics. High-weight topics from recent years include (but are not limited to): Calculus, Coordinate Geometry, Algebra, Thermodynamics, Electrostatics, Organic Chemistry, etc. Official detailed syllabus will be released in the notification.
