As per Government of India order F. No. 35-9/2016-TS.III dated 22 May 2017, the residential criteria for DASA UG admissions were modified as follows:
“At least two years of education, including Grades 11 & 12, must be completed in a foreign country during the last 8 years, and the qualifying exam must be passed from abroad.”
This relaxation was applicable only for the academic year 2017–18.
Updated residential criteria for DASA/CIWG 2025–26 must be verified from the upcoming brochure.
For NRI students living in the USA, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, and Saudi Arabia, the updated 2026 brochure will confirm whether this relaxation continues or has been modified.
CIWG stands for Children of Indian Workers in Gulf Countries.
It is a sub-category within DASA designed for NRI/OCI/PIO students whose parent is employed in any of the following Gulf nations:
NRI students living in the USA can also apply under CIWG only if a parent works in one of the above Gulf countries.
The eligibility for CIWG remains similar to NRI eligibility under DASA:
Academic Requirements
Parent Employment Proof (Mandatory for CIWG)
Parent must be employed in a Gulf country and provide:
Applicants can select:
If choosing both, the candidate must initially pay the NRI/DASA fee. If allotted under CIWG, the extra fee is refunded.
Expected Fee Pattern (as per recent cycles):
If the fee is revised by competent authorities, the same applies to CIWG students.
If a CIWG student does not secure a CIWG seat but has opted for both categories, they automatically become eligible for General DASA Quota based on JEE Main rank.
Will you be applying for DASA / CIWG 2025 or years after that? You must then prepare for JEE Main.

Q1. Will the DASA Scheme be available in 2025?
Yes. The DASA Scheme continues for the 2025 admission cycle for NRI, OCI, PIO, and Foreign National students, including those in the USA and Middle East, offering UG seats in NITs, IIITs, SPAs, and CFTIs through JEE Main rank-based admission.
Q2. Will SAT or SAT Subject Tests be valid for DASA admissions in 2025?
No. SAT and SAT Subject Tests are not accepted for DASA/CIWG from 2021 onward. For 2025, admissions remain strictly based on JEE Main Percentile and AIR, applicable to all NRI/CIWG applicants, including USA and Gulf countries.
Q3. What is the advantage of JEE Main over SAT for DASA/CIWG 2025?
JEE Main is the only officially recognized exam for DASA admissions. It ensures transparent, rank-based seat allocation across NITs, IIITs, SPAs, and CFTIs. SAT holds no relevance for DASA/CIWG as of 2025.
Q4. What is the eligibility criteria for NRI, OCI, PIO applicants under DASA/CIWG 2025?
Candidates must be NRI/OCI/PIO/Foreign Nationals, have completed Grade 12 with Math + Physics + one science subject, possess a valid passport, and submit a valid JEE Main 2025 score. CIWG applicants must additionally provide Gulf parent employment documentation.
Q5. Which grade students can take JEE Main for DASA 2025 admissions?
Students currently studying in Grade 12 or who have completed Grade 12/equivalent are eligible to take JEE Main for DASA 2025. Admission is based on JEE Main Percentile and AIR, not raw marks or SAT scores.
Q6. Is JEE Main officially mandatory for DASA/CIWG 2025?
Yes. JEE Main is officially mandatory. The SAT option has been discontinued since 2021. No reversal notification has been issued, and 2025 admissions remain fully dependent on JEE Main Percentile and Rank.
Q7. Can the government withdraw or modify the JEE Main requirement for DASA 2025?
Unlikely. The shift to JEE Main aligns DASA with national engineering admission standards. No official communication suggests reversing this policy. Applicants should still check the official 2025–26 brochure for any updates.
Q8. Has the qualifying exam or academic criteria changed for DASA/CIWG 2025?
Past guidelines required 60% or 6.5 CGPA in Grade 12. While this criterion generally remains unchanged, applicants must reconfirm through the official 2025–26 DASA brochure for any updated academic or residency requirements.
Q9. How should NRI students prepare for JEE Main to apply under DASA/CIWG 2025?
NRI students in the USA and Middle East should follow NCERT-based preparation, take regular mock tests, analyze JEE patterns, practice PYQs, and focus on time management. Consistent testing and structured guidance greatly improve DASA admission chances.
Q10. What will be the expected JEE Rank cutoff for DASA/CIWG 2025?
Cut-offs vary annually depending on competition, branch preferences, and seat availability. Highly demanded branches like CSE, IT, and ECE require strong JEE Main percentiles. Final cut-offs are released only after DASA counseling rounds.
Q11. Do NRI students need coaching to qualify for JEE Main under DASA/CIWG?
Coaching is not compulsory but is highly beneficial, especially for NRI students in the USA and Middle East who may not follow NCERT curriculum. Structured guidance, weekly testing, and conceptual clarity significantly improve JEE Main rank outcomes.
Q12. What is considered the best online JEE coaching option for NRI students in 2025?
NRI students should choose programs offering live faculty interaction, JEE-pattern mock tests, analytics-based evaluation, and flexible USA–Middle East time zones. Coaching aligned specifically with DASA/CIWG expectations is advantageous.
Q13. How do NRI students submit JEE Main rank on the DASA portal?
After JEE Main results are released, students must log into the official DASA portal, upload required documents, and enter their JEE Main Rank and Percentile. Instructions for uploading rank details are issued during the registration period.
Q14. Can CIWG applicants also apply under the general DASA category?
Yes. CIWG applicants may choose both CIWG and DASA categories. If CIWG seats are filled, they are automatically considered under the general DASA category, provided they paid the DASA fee during registration.
Q15. Is completing Grade 11 & 12 abroad still mandatory for DASA/CIWG 2025?
Earlier guidelines required completing Grades 11 & 12 from abroad, but residency criteria have been revised in recent cycles. Applicants must verify updated requirements from the official DASA 2025–26 brochure, as rules may change.
