Will JEE 2021 be tougher?
Surveys show that in India, one out of every three families has a student preparing for JEE.
With such severe competition and less number of seats available in premier Engineering Institutes of India, only the best ones are chosen for admissions.
The government has tried very hard to ease out this growing competition by increasing the number of seats in the IITs & NITs as well as setting up its new branches in India.
But the students who aspire to get into the top streams of engineering like Mechanical, Electronics, or Computer science still have to face a lot of competition. Also, every year, the NRI, PIO, OCI Students & foreign candidates are adding up in the total number of candidates appearing for JEE.
Note: According to the latest update from DASA, from session 2021-22 onwards, JEE Main Rank is mandatory for NRI/ PIO/ OCI/ FN Students to be eligible for DASA & CIWG Schemes. Hence, 2020-21 will be the last year when SAT 2 scores will be considered for DASA/CIWG Scheme.
This is the reason why the entrance exams seem to get tougher every year & it will continue to be so in the future. Here is the explanation:
JEE 2021 Difficulty Level:
Taking a look at JEE 2020, approx 10 Lakh candidates appeared for the JEE Main.
Upon questioning about the difficulty level, most of them felt that Chemistry had been relatively easy while Mathematics and Physics proved to be quite challenging and lengthy.
With an increasing number of students competing for a few thousand seats in IIT & NITs, the examination authorities are forced to increase the difficulty level of JEE in order to rectify the best candidates.
However, with the government's efforts to ease up this competition, JEE has shown a trend of saturation in the difficulty level of questions.
Candidates who took the test even stated that few questions were straightforward and were based on the NCERT books. The few tricky questions can also be solved with a firm foundation in basics and a good amount of practice.
What Determines The Toughness Level of JEE?
The difficulty level of questions is not what is to be focused on but your preparation. In order to understand this, you must understand that JEE is primarily a competitive exam in the sense that it gauges you against your competitors.
So it is not how much you score in this exam that matters but how much you score in comparison to other students who have taken the exam with you.
The rank you secure after the exam is detrimental to your getting a seat in premier Indian Engineering Institutes. The higher the rank, the more choice you get as to which Institute and stream you get to choose.
If the difficulty increases, it becomes tough for all candidates.
Hence, the overall performance of the entire applicant population goes down. As a result, the scores may be low, but the chances of securing a good rank are more or less the same for candidates who practiced well.
JEE Main & JEE Advanced Difficulty Comparison:
When you compare JEE Main to JEE Advanced, the difficulty level is more challenging for JEE Advanced.
For JEE Advanced, the pattern changes slightly and the marking is in terms of the type of question being attempted. Some JEE advanced questions even give no options at all and ask you to type a single-digit answer in the blank provided.
This change in a pattern along with the fact that you are competing with individuals who have already cleared the JEE Main makes the JEE Advanced slightly more challenging.
How To Combat the Difficulty Level of The Question Paper?
The logical solution is that you just need to learn the different approaches to a question.
If you analyze all the previous question papers of JEE, you will see that each paper has been set by the authority in such a way that all the questions can be solved within the stipulated time.
The key to doing so is the method in which the question is cracked.
If you learn only the basic theories, you may adopt a longer method to solve the question which can put you behind in terms of time and can cost you a fewer mark which results in a lower JEE rank.
If you adopt the right strategy, the paper may become comparatively simple.
There are also many tips and tricks of solving complicated problems that may also come in handy as calculators are not permitted in the JEE.
Whether you are a JEE aspirant in India or the middle east or any other location, with rigorous practice once the paper becomes manageable to you, you may even hope that the paper becomes tougher next year so that your JEE Rank may get boosted easily.
