KVPY Scholarships: A Vital Development
After the government combined the fellowship with the INSPIRE program under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, the KVPY (Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana) fellowships were ended in July 2022.
Benefits of the Previous KVPY Scholarship (Prior to 2022)
The KVPY fellowship offered financial aid to students enrolled in fundamental science courses prior to its discontinuation. Below is a summary of the earlier advantages:

Duration of the Scholarship
As long as the student fulfilled the requirements for academic achievement, the fellowship was granted until the end of the course, which might take up to five years.
Qualifications for Scholarships
The KVPY test (Aptitude Test & Interview) has to be passed by the students.
They have to be enrolled in fundamental science programs leading to a B.Sc., B.S., B.Stat., B.Math., Int. M.Sc., or Int. M.S.
In order to continue earning the fellowship, scholars had to maintain a minimum level of academic performance in college or university.
Current Option: INSPIRE Fellowship Students can now apply for scholarships under INSPIRE since KVPY and INSPIRE (Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research) merged.
Important details:
No separate exam (eligibility is based on board exams and national-level competitive exams).
Provides financial support for science students in a manner similar to KVPY.
Advantages of the KVPY scheme
Selected candidates shall get generous monthly KVPY scholarship
They can also attend summer camps at various research institutions in India
They get the opportunity to use libraries and laboratory facilities of prestigious educational institutes.
Students of Sciences streams (Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics & Biology) are eligible for this programme.
In addition to the above, participation and satisfactory performance in the Summer Camp in the first year and Summer project every year after that is required for renewal of the fellowship.
Those that are eligible for the scholarship will be issued an Identity Card to access to approved National Laboratories/ Universities/Libraries

Renewal Of Scholarship
Based on obtaining minimum prescribed marks in the subsequent years after getting the scholarship, the scheme would be extended to subsequent years up to the Pre-PhD level, or 5 years whichever is earlier. However, the fellowship would be discontinued in the absence of getting a minimum prescribed score in subsequent years. From2012 onwards, there are a change in policy as:
“ for the candidate passes all the subjects and gets s more than 60% ((50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in the subsequent years, the scholarship/fellowship will be renewed only from that particular year This is again conditional that he or she obtaining 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate every subsequent year/ years”
