Education Ministry Removes 75% Marks in Class 12 as Eligibility Criteria for NITs, IIITs; Admission To Be Based on JEE-Main
Earlier, along with the results in JEE-Main, NITs used to ask either 75 percent mark in the board exams or a place in the Top 20 percentile of their respective boards
On Tuesday, the Ministry of Education declared a relaxing of the admission criteria for NITs and centrally funded technical institutions by waiving the criterion of 75 per cent mark in Class 12.
"Considering the decision taken for IIT JEE(Advanced) and in line with the decision taken for the last academic year, it has been decided to waive off the 75 percent marks (in class 12 exam) eligibility criteria under Joint Entrance Examination (Main) for the next academic year 2021-2022 in respect of NITs, IIITs, SPAs and other CFTIs, whose admissions are based on JEE (Main),"
Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank' tweeted.
Following the outbreak of COVID-19, the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) last year relaxed the criteria for admission to the National Institute of Technology (NIT) and Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs).
As far as relaxation is concerned, NITs will admit undergraduate candidates on the basis of their success in the Joint Entrance Exam Main (JEE Main) and will deduct the Class 12 examination marks in the selection process.
Earlier, along with the results in JEE Main, the NITs applied for either a 75 percent mark in the board of exams or a spot in the top 20 percentile of their respective boards.
