DASA / CIWG & JEE FAQ 2025-26
1. How does DASA/CIWG seat allotment work for 2025–26?
Seat allotment is fully based on the JEE Main rank submitted by the candidate. Applicants are allocated seats in NITs, IIITs, CFTIs, and SPAs through multiple rounds, depending on their preferences and available seats. CIWG candidates get priority in their reserved quota.
2. Are DASA and CIWG ranks different during seat allotment?
No. There is no separate “DASA Rank” or “CIWG Rank.” Both categories use the same JEE Main All India Rank list. The difference lies only in the reserved CIWG seat quota and the applicable fee structure during seat confirmation.
3. What documents are required before seat allotment?
Students must upload their passport, Class 10–12 marksheets, proof of two years of education abroad, JEE Main scorecard, school certificate, and fee payment receipt. CIWG candidates must also submit parent’s Gulf employment proof and passport.
4. What happens if a student misses the first round of allotment?
Students who miss Round 1 confirmation are automatically considered for subsequent rounds, provided they meet all eligibility criteria. However, skipping confirmation may reduce the chance of securing preferred branches or top NITs.
5. Can I change my preferences after Round 1?
Yes. Preference changes are allowed during the “Choice Refilling” window before the special round. Students can modify, add, or rearrange options to increase their chances of securing a better branch or institute.
6. Is physical reporting mandatory after seat allotment?
Yes. All candidates must physically report to the allotted institute within the specified timeline in September 2025. They must carry original documents for verification. Non-reporting leads to cancellation of the allotted seat.
7. How many DASA/CIWG allotment rounds are conducted?
Typically, three main rounds of allotment are conducted, followed by a special round and internal sliding. CIWG candidates get priority in their reserved seats across all rounds until the quota is filled.
8. What is internal sliding in DASA/CIWG?
Internal sliding is the process where already-admitted students are considered for an upgrade to a better branch within the same institute. It is based strictly on JEE Main rank and availability of seats after regular rounds.
9. Is JEE Main mandatory for DASA/CIWG in 2025–26?
Yes. SAT scores are no longer accepted. All admissions under DASA and CIWG categories for the 2025–26 cycle are based solely on JEE Main rank, regardless of the student’s country of residence.
10. Do USA-based NRIs have any seat reservation like CIWG?
No. USA-based NRI students can only apply under the DASA category. Reserved CIWG seats are only for children of Indian workers residing in Gulf countries (UAE, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia).
11. What is the fee difference during seat confirmation?
CIWG students pay the same tuition fee as Indian nationals (₹1,25,000 per year), whereas DASA applicants pay USD 4000 per semester for the Non-SAARC category. SAARC category students pay USD 2000 per semester.
12. Can CIWG students choose to be considered under DASA also?
Yes. If CIWG applicants opt for both categories, they must initially pay the DASA fee. If allotted a CIWG seat, the difference is refunded as per the DASA admission rules.
13. How competitive is DASA/CIWG seat allotment for NITs?
Competition is high due to limited supernumerary seats. Top NITs like Surathkal, Trichy, and Warangal require strong JEE Main ranks, especially for CS, ECE, and Mechanical engineering seats in the CIWG quota.
14. Can I participate in JoSAA if I apply under DASA/CIWG?
Yes. DASA/CIWG admissions are independent of JoSAA. Students may participate in both processes simultaneously, but must choose one seat during final admission reporting.
15. When is the DASA 2026 brochure expected?
The official DASA brochure is typically released between May–June each year. For 2026 admissions, students should expect publication around May 2026 (tentative), with exact dates confirmed by the coordinating NIT.
