Learn exactly how eligible NRI and overseas-school students can apply to AIIMS for MBBS through NEET UG and MCC counselling. Follow the steps from eligibility and registration to AIIMS choice filling, seat allotment and campus reporting.
Yes. An eligible Indian-citizen NRI can apply for AIIMS MBBS through NEET UG and the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). But there is no general paid or NRI sponsored quota for an MBBS in AIIMS through the 2026 MCC AIIMS seat allocation. This will depend on the NEET rank and category of the student and their academic eligibility.
The NRI candidate is not required to fill up an "application form for AIIMS NRI." This is the exact same process of admission that is followed by those candidates who apply for AIIMS MBBS. These include qualifying NEET, attending MCC counseling and getting allocated to one of the medical institutes. International students require extra caution regarding documentation.
For a broad comparison of all AIIMS categories, read our AIIMS NRI Quota guide. This page focuses on the actual application, counselling and admission workflow.
The first step is to identify the student’s citizenship and legal status, Not simply the country in which the individual is residing. For instance, an individual with an Indian passport living in Texas is expected to belong to a different counselling category from that of an individual with a U.S. passport and OCI card.
| Student profile | What this usually means for AIIMS admission | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Indian passport holder living overseas (NRI) | May compete for eligible AIIMS seats through NEET UG and MCC under the applicable Indian candidate category. | Valid passport, school eligibility, NEET and any claimed reservation category. |
| OCI card holder with foreign citizenship | May apply subject to current NEET, MCC and AIIMS category rules; OCI rights and special categories require individual review. | OCI proof, nationality rules and relevant institute/MCC notices. |
| Foreign citizen without OCI | A foreign-national admission route may be relevant where expressly provided, especially the distinct AIIMS New Delhi Foreign Country Quota. | Current foreign-national criteria, nomination/category process where applicable, and NEET requirement. |
| Indian passport holder with H-4, L-2 or Green Card residence in USA | A U.S. visa or permanent-resident status does not, by itself, turn an Indian citizen into a foreign national. | Indian citizenship, current immigration documents and qualifying subjects. |
For a fuller discussion of residency and citizenship, see NEET eligibility for NRI students and NEET for NRI students in the USA.
Overseas candidate should fulfill the NEET UG eligibility criteria, along with AIIMS MBBS admission criteria as mentioned. Please note that one cannot depend only on "50% in PCB" in each and every case of AIIMS. AIIMS, New Delhi, has published specific criteria for qualifying examination.
| Eligibility area | What students should check before applying |
|---|---|
| Minimum age | Generally 17 years by 31 December of the admission year under NEET rules. Check the current bulletin for precise eligibility. |
| Qualifying examination | Class 12 or an accepted equivalent qualification, with the required science and English subjects. |
| Core subjects | Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology as applicable, and English, in the combinations recognized under the current rules. |
| Academic marks | Follow the AIIMS prospectus and NEET eligibility rules applicable to the exact seat category. AIIMS New Delhi prospectuses have historically specified separate aggregate-mark thresholds in English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. |
| NEET UG | Valid NEET qualification and rank for the counselling year are essential for the standard AIIMS MBBS route. |
| Overseas qualification | Determine whether transcripts, grade conversion or an official equivalency certificate are required before counselling. |
| Reservation category | Use only a category for which the candidate is actually eligible and can produce the required documents. |
They may qualify, but specific criteria will matter. American high schools have a variety of graduation and science courses structures. The presence of a general science credit on a transcript does not always mean fulfillment of the Physics, Chemistry, and Biology requirement for NEET exam. Be sure to look at names of the subjects, course structure, lab component and evidence of graduation.

The following eight steps form the practical path for an NRI who is an Indian citizen to apply to AIIMS. The legal status of the student and other requirements of the institution cannot be overlooked.
If you need a comparison of alternative government and NRI-category medical colleges, see government medical colleges for NRIs and the MBBS admission process for NRI students.
AIIMS admission is based on merit. Students studying outside India can benefit from a syllabus-gap review, weekly targets and consistent Physics, Chemistry and Biology practice.
Counselling for 100% of AIIMS MBBS seats is done by MCC. It is a centralized procedure and comprises registration, payment of fees, selection of choices, allotment, reporting, and participation in further rounds depending on the rules. Separate guidelines are issued for each counselling session.
| Counselling stage | Student action | Special attention for an overseas family |
|---|---|---|
| MCC registration | Register with matching personal, exam and category details and complete the required payment. | Use consistent passport, birth date, NEET and qualifying-exam records. |
| Seat matrix review | Read the available AIIMS campus, quota and category seats in that round. | Foreign Country Quota is not the AIIMS NRI quota; do not mistake one for the other. |
| Choice filling / locking | Order AIIMS choices in genuine preference order; save and lock according to MCC instructions. | Consider travel feasibility, but do not reorder a preferred college for an unverified “NRI benefit.” |
| Allotment result | Check the allotted AIIMS, category and reporting instructions. | Confirm visa/travel plans and access to original certificates. |
| Joining or next round | Act within the stipulated reporting and option windows. | Understand freeze, float, upgradation, resignation and security-deposit consequences before acting. |
Not. MCC also takes care of admission procedures for colleges where the NRI quota is notified separately, which includes some deemed universities. Submission or confirmation of NRI candidature does not change an AIIMS open seat quota seat into an NRI seat. Always refer to the latest matrix of MCC regarding the particular college, course, quota, and category.
For admission rounds and seat changes in broader NRI MBBS counselling, read NEET admission allotments for NRI students.
The exact original-document list is published by MCC and the admitting AIIMS. Prepare a complete folder before the result is announced, especially if the student must travel to India from overseas within a short reporting period.
| Document group | Prepare these records | When additional proof may be needed |
|---|---|---|
| NEET and MCC | NEET admit card, scorecard/rank information, MCC registration confirmation and allotment letter. | Later rounds may require specific additional letters or confirmations. |
| School education | Grade 10/Class 10 proof, Class 12 or equivalent marksheets, passing/diploma certificate, subject record. | U.S./IB/other overseas transcripts and an equivalence certificate where required. |
| Identity and nationality | Passport or other accepted ID, photographs and birth-date evidence. | OCI card or foreign-national status documentation where applicable. |
| Claimed category | Valid reservation/category documents only if claiming that category. | Prescribed format, validity date and competent issuing authority matter. |
| Institute joining | Original documents, photocopies, fee receipts and institute-specific medical/fitness forms as notified. | Travel arrangements, translated/attested papers, and parent/guardian authorization if prescribed. |
It is not just because an NRI who is a citizen of India is applying for an AIIMS open category seat. The evidence of sponsor's relation and the affidavit regarding the sponsor and such other documents are relevant only for those categories of admissions where they are required.
Avoid last-minute reporting problems. Discuss school transcripts, citizenship or OCI paperwork and NEET/MCC admission records with an NRI admissions counsellor.
For families living in New Jersey, Texas, California, Illinois, Georgia and other U.S. states, AIIMS admission involves two separate preparations: achieving a competitive NEET rank and ensuring that an American school record is accepted for the required MBBS academic criteria.
An Indian passport holder studying in the United States has to go through the regular process of NEET to MCC AIIMS, on condition that the student fulfills the eligibility criteria at present. A Green Card, H-4 visa, or L-2 visa does not constitute the qualification or nationality criteria for being eligible.
The student is not an Indian national simply because he or she possesses OCI. This is a matter that needs to be discussed within the family, along with looking into the latest guidelines issued by NTA/MCC regarding OCI aspirants and also any provisions for the seat category of foreign nationals.
Don’t make the assumption that there is a NEET exam center in the United States. Check out the real centers in other countries from the relevant NTA bulletin. In case you get a seat in AIIMS, be prepared to undertake more traveling for the MCC purpose.
See our NEET exam centres in the USA guide for examination travel planning, and NEET coaching in the USA if the student needs preparation aligned with Indian NEET content.
There is no meaningful general “AIIMS NRI quota closing rank” when the relevant AIIMS seat matrix does not include a separate NRI quota. A candidate must compare their own NEET AIR against the actual seat category for which they are eligible, using official MCC allotment results.
The NEET qualifying threshold determines whether an applicant meets the exam’s minimum qualifying requirement. It does not mean the applicant will receive an AIIMS seat. Admission to highly preferred AIIMS institutions can require much stronger ranks, and closing ranks vary by campus, category and counselling round.
For broader cutoff explanations, see NEET cutoff for NRI students. Families comparing paid NRI routes can separately read medical college fees for NRI students and deemed medical colleges for NRIs.
If your family is comparing several admissions pathways, refer to NRI medical admission prerequisites and NRI 15 percent quota explained to distinguish different seat categories.
Regarding the 2026–27 admission process, there have been releases from the NTA for NEET UG information bulletin and the MCC for revised UG counseling information bulletin released on 20th August 2026. These student stories show how learners managed NEET preparation while attending school outside India. For NRI families checking eligibility, the practical lesson is to run the academic-document review and NEET preparation in parallel.
Choose a NEET preparation plan based on the student's grade, current Physics-Chemistry-Biology foundation, school workload abroad and the amount of NEET syllabus still to be covered. For NRI students, the right course should fit comfortably alongside a U.S., IB, Cambridge or other international-school schedule.
Course hours and prices are planning references. Please confirm the latest course schedule, pricing and batch availability before enrollment.
These result boards show NEET outcomes from students preparing outside India. They are useful preparation references and should not be treated as proof of eligibility for every admission route.
Yes, when the student fulfills all criteria for being considered eligible under NEET UG and gets a seat in AIIMS via MCC counseling. Only holding NRI status doesn’t guarantee any reserved seat.
There is no separate application process specifically for the AIIMS MBBS NRI quota. The students appear for NEET and join the MCC counselling process.
Yes, provided that the criteria of eligibility for citizenship, qualifying exam, and NEET are fulfilled. The U.S. education system will have to be examined for subjects and equivalence criteria.
Yes. NEET UG is the entrance examination for standard AIIMS MBBS admission, followed by MCC counselling.
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) conducts counselling for 100% of AIIMS MBBS seats across India.
Not simply because the student lives overseas. The Foreign Country Quota is a distinct category subject to its own current rules and verification.
Not merely because the student is an NRI. Supply the documents required by the actual AIIMS seat category and current MCC/institute reporting instructions.
There is no universal separate AIIMS NRI closing rank. Compare your NEET All India Rank with the official MCC cutoffs for your eligible category, AIIMS campus and round.
In principle, if it satisfies the necessary academic equivalence and subject criteria. Verify this with the latest prospectus and the competent authority before advising.
No. OCI status and the eligibility criteria for a separately designated Foreign Country Quota need to be evaluated under current MCC and AIIMS notices.
Candidates may explore multiple lawful counselling routes where eligible, but the institutions, fees, quotas, documentation and round rules differ. An NRI seat in a deemed/private college is not an AIIMS seat.
Use only the NTA and MCC notices issued for the 2027 cycle. The 2026 timeline does not establish 2027 dates.
