NEET Reservation of Seats 2027: AIQ, State Quota & NRI Seats

NEET reservation rules depend on which counselling pool and institution a student is applying through. The 15% All India Quota follows Central Government reservation rules, while State Quota seats follow the reservation policy of the respective State or Union Territory. NRI quota seats are a separate admission category available in certain institutions, including Deemed Universities and some state/private counselling systems where the applicable rules provide for them.

For NEET UG 2027 counselling, MCC applies the Central Government reservation policy to eligible 15% All India Quota seats and applicable Central institutions.

The open or unreserved category is not a separate fixed “reservation percentage.” Open seats are filled according to merit after applying the applicable reservation structure.

How Does NEET Reservation Work for State Quota Seats?

Seats filled through State or Union Territory counselling follow the reservation policy and eligibility rules of that State or UT. This means SC, ST, OBC, EWS, domicile, minority, PwD and other seat-category rules can differ from one State to another.

• State reservation percentages should not be assumed to be identical to the 15% AIQ percentages.
• Domicile requirements can apply to State Quota seats.
• NRI seats, where offered, may have separate eligibility, documentation and fee rules.
• Private-college and management-seat rules also depend on State counselling regulations.

Is There a Separate NRI Quota in NEET Counselling?

Yes, but only in institutions and counselling systems that specifically provide NRI-category seats. Under MCC's 2027 counselling framework, Deemed Universities can have NRI quota seats. Some State/private counselling systems may also provide NRI-category seats under their own rules.

There is no single nationwide NRI reservation percentage inside the 15% All India Quota. Therefore, an NRI family should check the actual seat matrix and counselling authority for the college being considered rather than assuming that every medical college has an NRI quota.

How Do NRI Seats Work in Deemed Universities?

MCC conducts counselling for Deemed University MBBS and BDS seats. The 2027 MCC counselling bulletin identifies NRI quota as one of the seat categories in Deemed Universities.

• The candidate must qualify NEET UG.
• Deemed University counselling is domicile-free under MCC rules.
• NRI seats require the candidate to satisfy the NRI eligibility and document-verification process.
• MCC states that SC, ST, OBC, EWS and PwD reservation is not provided in Deemed Universities in the same way it is under AIQ.
• Certain Deemed Universities may also have Jain or Muslim minority categories.

How Does MCC Verify NRI Candidates in 2027?

For MCC counselling in 2027, a candidate who wants access to NRI quota choices must complete the NRI selection and document-verification process during MCC registration.

1. Select the NRI quota while registering for MCC counselling.
2. Select the applicable NRI subcategory.
3. Upload the required supporting documents.
4. MCC's NRI Document Verification Committee reviews the uploaded documents.
5. Once the category is approved/converted to NRI, the candidate can access and fill eligible NRI-seat choices.

What Documents May NRI Candidates Need?

The exact document set depends on the candidate's NRI subcategory and counselling authority. MCC publishes the current document requirements during the counselling cycle. Depending on the case, documents can include proof of NRI status, relationship or guardianship evidence, passport/residence documents and other supporting certificates.

The NEET 2027 Information Bulletin also requires NRI/OCI applicants claiming that status to support it with the prescribed certificate from the concerned Indian Diplomatic Mission and retain the original for counselling/admission.

Are OCI Students Treated the Same as NRI Students?

Not automatically. OCI counselling rights depend on the applicable MCC rules and the candidate's OCI status. MCC's 2027 bulletin contains specific OCI provisions, including rules connected to when OCI status was obtained. OCI families should therefore check the current counselling bulletin rather than assuming that OCI and NRI categories are identical.

Do AIIMS and JIPMER Follow NRI Quota Rules?

MCC conducts counselling for 100% MBBS seats in AIIMS and JIPMER under the applicable open and Central reservation framework. NRI quota should not be assumed to exist simply because a candidate is an NRI. Families should rely on the MCC seat matrix for the exact seat categories offered by each institution.

How Is AFMC Admission Different?

NEET qualification is required for admission consideration at Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune. AFMC has additional admission and screening requirements determined by the Armed Forces Medical Services, so candidates should not treat AFMC as a standard AIQ or NRI-quota admission route.
