No separate general NRI-sponsored MBBS seat quota is listed for AIIMS in the MCC 2026 Round 1 matrix. An NRI Indian citizen may seek admission if the student satisfies the entrance examination and other eligibility rules and is allotted a seat through the applicable MCC category. Being NRI does not by itself generate an extra seat or lower merit requirement.
AIIMS New Delhi has a separate Foreign Country Quota. The 2026 Round 1 data shows seven seats under that heading. It is a different quota, and students should not assume an NRI passport holder, an OCI candidate, or an NRI-sponsored applicant is automatically eligible for it.
| Seat type | What it means | How an overseas student should interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| AIIMS MBBS institute seats | The institute-wise intake shown in MCC seat matrices | Not all seats are reserved or available to any one category. |
| Open Seat Quota / eligible categories | Seats allotted using NEET rank and applicable reservation rules | An eligible NRI student competes only in a category for which the student qualifies. |
| Separate AIIMS NRI-sponsored quota | Not listed as a nationwide AIIMS MBBS category in the referenced MCC matrix | Do not infer 15% NRI seats from an AIIMS college’s total intake. |
| AIIMS New Delhi Foreign Country Quota | Seven separately labeled seats in 2026 Round 1 | Foreign-country seat eligibility must be verified under the current applicable notice. |
| NRI seats in private or deemed colleges | Separate quotas may be offered in other institutions under applicable rules | These cannot be counted as seats in AIIMS. |
The term 15% All India Quota also creates confusion. AIIMS is not offering an “NRI 15% quota” simply because MCC conducts national counselling. State AIQ, NRI-sponsored seats in other institutions, and AIIMS admission categories have different meanings.
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Can NRIs get AIIMS MBBS admission? | Yes, subject to NEET, citizenship/status and MCC category eligibility. |
| Does every AIIMS reserve NRI MBBS seats? | No. The referenced matrix does not show a general AIIMS NRI quota. |
| Who conducts AIIMS MBBS counselling? | Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) for 100% of AIIMS MBBS seats. |
| Is AIIMS New Delhi’s Foreign Country Quota the same as NRI quota? | No. It is separately labeled and has its own applicable eligibility conditions. |
| Can NRI students pay higher fees to bypass their NEET rank? | No separate paid AIIMS NRI admission shortcut exists. |
| Are overseas American-school students automatically eligible? | No. Class 12/equivalent science subjects, citizenship/status and NEET rules must be checked. |
An AIIMS seat table should be read by campus, quota, category, seat type, counselling round and admission year. The entire MBBS intake is not the number of seats available to an NRI candidate. A later vacancy list is not the same as the original seat matrix.

No. The seven 2026 Round 1 seats are labeled Foreign Country Quota, rather than an NRI-sponsored quota. A student with an Indian passport who happens to live in the USA or UAE should not assume these seven seats are available to that student simply because the family lives abroad.
| AIIMS Delhi quota label | 2026 Round 1 seats | How to interpret |
|---|---|---|
| Open Seat Quota and eligible reservation categories | 125 | Admissions depend on qualifying NEET merit and applicable candidate category. |
| Foreign Country Quota | 7 | Check the specific foreign-country admission and eligibility rules; not a general NRI quota. |
| Total | 132 | Includes both allocations above; the seven are not additional seats outside 132. |
OCI and foreign national students will have specific legal status criteria which might be different from those of NRIs who are citizens of India. The eligibility of OCI and foreign national candidates will depend on the current guidelines issued by NTA, NMC, and MCC. In addition, for special seats, the guidelines provided by the specific institution should also be considered.
Check Indian passport, OCI status, qualifying subjects and actual MCC category before deciding which campuses to shortlist.
An Indian citizen studying or living outside India can apply for an eligible AIIMS seat after meeting the NEET UG rules, qualifying examination requirements and MCC counselling conditions. The student is not automatically moved into a special AIIMS NRI seat category.
OCI eligibility needs to be declared properly. Applicants need to go through the proper documentation that pertains to OCI candidates, especially those institutions who have allotted foreign-category seats.
Individuals from other countries are expected to determine whether they qualify for the particular admission route and produce the necessary documents required by the appropriate body. Studying in a foreign country does not necessarily prove one’s foreign nationality.
The students have to meet all the conditions set by the existing science subjects and qualifications, which includes the specific conditions of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English. A US High School Diploma will not suffice to determine the eligibility.

| Stage | What to do | Seat-specific check |
|---|---|---|
| Review eligibility | Confirm citizenship or OCI status, age and science-subject qualifications. | Identify the eligible counselling category. |
| Register and appear for NEET UG | Meet the applicable exam registration requirements and secure an All India Rank. | A qualifying percentile alone does not guarantee AIIMS admission. |
| Register for MCC counselling | Complete registration under the category for which the applicant is eligible. | MCC handles 100% of AIIMS MBBS counselling. |
| Read current seat matrix | Study campus-wise quota, category and round information. | Do not assume all AIIMS seats are an NRI pool. |
| Fill and lock AIIMS choices | Order campuses according to real preferences and rank strategy. | Compare actual eligible-category closing ranks. |
| Check allotment and report | Follow MCC instructions and carry the required original documents. | Allotment and final institute verification are distinct steps. |

AIIMS does not publish one nationwide “NRI cutoff rank” for a separately reserved NRI MBBS seat pool. A student must compare their NEET All India Rank with historical closing ranks for the quota and category under which they can actually be considered. Competition differs by campus, category and round.

No general AIIMS NRI management-style tuition category follows from the published MBBS seat matrix. A student who lives abroad should not assume that paying a higher NRI fee can replace NEET ranking or gain access to additional AIIMS seats.
Tuition fee and other charges at AIIMS should be matched against the current reporting notice available for the designated campus. Foreign country guidelines, wherever applicable, also have their own set of fees, which should not be compared with the NRI fee structure of any private or deemed medical college.
If the student is also considering private and deemed colleges, see Medical College Fees for NRI Students, Government Medical Colleges for NRIs and Deemed Medical Colleges for NRI Students.
Documents depend on the current NTA and MCC instructions, the candidate’s citizenship or OCI status, school system, counselling category and the AIIMS campus reporting checklist.
| Document group | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| NEET admit card and result/scorecard | Establishes the candidate’s examination and merit details. |
| MCC registration and allotment documents | Required for counselling and assigned-campus reporting. |
| Class 10 and Class 12 / equivalent academic records | Used to check qualifications, date of birth and required subjects. |
| Passport / relevant identity proof | Helps verify citizenship and personal particulars. |
| OCI documentation, where relevant | Required to assess status-specific eligibility. |
| Overseas transcripts and equivalence documents, if applicable | Helps establish qualifying subjects and recognition of foreign-school credentials. |
| Category-specific original certificates, if applicable | Required only when claiming a category that calls for such evidence. |
See NRI Medical Admission Prerequisites for related overseas documentation planning.

The above cases reveal how the students handled the process of NEET preparation while studying at educational institutions outside India. The key takeaway for NRI families that want to determine their eligibility is that they should conduct both processes simultaneously.
Select the NEET course based on the student’s class, their Physics Chemistry Biology background, academic work load abroad, and the part of NEET syllabus left to cover. For NRI students, the ideal course must comfortably sit alongside a timetable from U.S., IB, Cambridge or any international school.
