What is the SAT Exam ?

The SAT, a standardized test presented in a multiple-choice and student-produced response format, is administered by the College Board. Students undertake this test to gain admission to undergraduate programs, primarily in the United States and Canada. The full form of SAT is the Scholastic Assessment Test. Its purpose is to assess candidates' proficiency in reading, writing, and mathematical abilities.

Until 2023 (International) and 2024 (U.S.), the SAT was offered on paper. It is now fully digital worldwide through the Bluebook testing app.

The Scholastic Assessment Test was established in 1926 and has undergone regular changes. SAT is a standardized test used for admissions into undergraduate programs in most U.S. colleges and universities, and in some other countries.

The SAT fee structure varies by country. For international students (including India), the base registration fee is $68 + international fee $43 + applicable taxes (~₹11,200–₹11,500 depending on exchange rates).

Digital SAT English Section Exam Structure (Reading and Writing)

The Reading and Writing section contains 2 modules. There are 25 operational questions and 2 pretest questions in each module. The time duration for each module is 32 minutes. You will find the exam structure in detail in the table given below:

The Mathematics section contains 2 modules. There are 23 operational and 2 pretest questions in each module. The total time allotted for the Mathematics section is 70 minutes, with 35 minutes for each module. When should I take the SAT?

Most students take the SAT in spring of junior year (Grade 11) or fall of senior year (Grade 12). Multiple dates allow for retakes: Aug, Sep, Oct, Nov, Dec, Mar, May, Jun each year.

The SAT exam administered by the College Board does not have specific eligibility criteria for students intending to take the test. Here are key points regarding SAT eligibility:

Age Limit:

• There is no specified minimum or maximum age requirement for individuals taking the SAT. While there is no age limit, it's observed that a significant number of candidates fall within the age range of 17 to 19.

Number of Attempts:

• Unlike some standardized tests, such as the ACT, the College Board does not impose restrictions on the number of times a student can take the SAT. Candidates are free to attempt the exam as many times as they deem necessary. The SAT is conducted seven times a year in India, typically in March, May, June, August, October, and December.

Educational Eligibility:

• The College Board has not established specific educational criteria for SAT eligibility. While there are no formal academic prerequisites, it is common for high school students to take the SAT. Those aspiring to pursue undergraduate studies abroad often take the SAT after successfully completing their high school education as part of the application process.

For the upcoming SAT Exams , it is crucial to consider the limited availability of seats at designated SAT Test Centers. To streamline the testing process and avoid unnecessary complications, candidates are strongly advised to proactively book their exam slots well in advance. To enhance convenience, it's recommended to locate an SAT center in close proximity to your home, ensuring a timely arrival on the scheduled test date.

How to Cancel Digital SAT

If you decide not to take the Digital SAT after registering, it’s important to know that cancellations do not come with a refund. The College Board no longer offers partial refunds, even if you cancel well before test day.

Instead of canceling, students are encouraged to reschedule their test date or change their test center (for a small fee) at least five days before the exam. This way, you don’t lose your registration fee and still have the flexibility to sit for the test at a later date.

How to Postpone or Reschedule SAT Exam Date:

If you cannot take the SAT on your originally scheduled date, the College Board allows you to make changes, but only under certain conditions. The process is simple: instead of a traditional “reschedule,” you modify your existing registration by choosing a new test date or center through your College Board account.

A standard change fee of $25 is charged for any update, whether you are shifting your test date, changing your test center, or making other adjustments. It’s important to complete these changes no later than five days before your exam. After that deadline, the system closes, and you’ll no longer be able to make modifications.

By planning ahead and acting early, you can avoid unnecessary stress and ensure you still get the chance to sit for the SAT at a more convenient time and location.

The base fee for the SAT exam is $68.
In addition to the base fee, there is a Non-U.S. Regional Fee of $43 for students taking the SAT test in India.
In some cases, a test center or regional surcharge (around $20–$25) may also apply depending on the location.
Consequently, the overall fee for the SAT in India is typically around $111 (≈ ₹11,500), plus any applicable test center charges.
