NEET Eligibility Criteria 2027 Overview

1. What Is the Minimum Age for NEET 2027?

Under the latest NTA rule, a candidate must complete 17 years of age on or before December 31 of the year in which the candidate appears for NEET. If NTA keeps the same rule for NEET 2027, the candidate would need to complete 17 years on or before December 31, 2027.

2. Is There an Upper Age Limit for NEET 2027?

The latest NTA eligibility framework states that there is no upper age limit for NEET. Unless NTA announces a change for 2027, older candidates can appear provided they satisfy the other eligibility and admission requirements.

3. Who Can Apply for NEET 2027 Based on Nationality?

Under the latest published rules, Indian Nationals, Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) and Foreign Nationals are eligible to appear for NEET. Admission after NEET remains subject to the rules of the applicable counselling authority, state, institution and candidate category.

4. What Educational Qualification Is Required for NEET 2027?

A candidate must satisfy one of the qualifying-examination routes prescribed by NTA. For most students, this means Class 12 or an equivalent examination with the required subjects. NTA also recognizes other qualifying routes, including certain recognized university, pre-medical and equivalent examinations.

5. Which Subjects Are Required for NEET 2027 Eligibility?

The latest qualifying-examination framework requires the prescribed study of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English. Practical requirements apply where specified under the relevant qualifying route. Students should not rely only on the title of their diploma or curriculum; their actual subject combination and supporting academic records matter.

6. Can Class 12 Appearing Students Apply for NEET 2027?

Under the latest NTA rule, yes. A candidate whose Class 12 or equivalent result is awaited may apply and appear for NEET. However, the candidate cannot complete admission eligibility unless the qualifying examination is passed by the stage specified for counselling or admission. The latest 2026 bulletin requires an appearing candidate to pass the qualifying examination by the first round of counselling.

7. Can a PCM Student Become Eligible for NEET by Taking Biology Later?

Under the latest NTA/NMC framework, candidates who complete the required subjects, including Biology/Biotechnology and English, as additional subjects after Class 12 from a duly recognized board can be permitted to appear for NEET. The candidate must be able to provide documentary evidence of having passed the required subjects.

8. What Are the Eligibility Rules for NRI, OCI and Foreign National Students?

The latest NTA framework allows NRIs, OCI cardholders and Foreign Nationals to appear for NEET, subject to applicable admission rules. NRI and OCI applicants may be required to support their status with the prescribed certificate from the concerned Indian Diplomatic Mission, while Foreign Nationals must provide acceptable proof of nationality as required in the application and admission process.

• NEET eligibility and NRI quota eligibility are not the same thing.
• NRI seat rules can vary by state, institution and counselling authority.
• Sponsorship, relationship proof, passport, visa/residence documents and other NRI evidence may be checked separately during counselling.
• Foreign Nationals should verify admission eligibility with the relevant competent authority in addition to NEET eligibility.

9. Can U.S. High School and Other Foreign-Board Students Apply for NEET 2027?

Students completing high school in the United States or another country can fall within the NEET eligibility framework if their qualification is accepted as equivalent and their academic record satisfies the required subject conditions. The name of the diploma alone is not enough. The student should be able to establish the required study of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English under the applicable qualifying route.

Where equivalence needs to be established, the latest NTA bulletin provides for an equivalency certificate from the concerned Indian University or the Association of Indian Universities. U.S.-educated NRI families should therefore review transcripts and subject coverage well before counselling.

10. Is There a Maximum Number of Attempts for NEET 2027?

The latest NEET (UG) 2026 Information Bulletin does not specify a maximum number of attempts. Candidates should still recheck the NEET 2027 bulletin when it is published before treating this as the final 2027 rule.

11. What Qualifying Percentile Is Required for NEET Admission?

The qualifying percentile is different from the Class 12 subject requirement. Under the latest published NEET rules, the following percentile standards apply for admission eligibility:

Is NEET Required for AIIMS and JIPMER?

Under the current admission framework, NEET is the common qualifying entrance examination for undergraduate medical admission to institutions including AIIMS and JIPMER. There is no separate AIIMS MBBS or JIPMER MBBS entrance examination.

Which Courses Use NEET?

Under the latest official NTA framework, NEET is used for undergraduate medical admission and also applies to MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BUMS, BSMS and BHMS admission pathways under the relevant statutory frameworks. NEET scores are also used for shortlisting candidates for the four-year BSc Nursing course of the Military Nursing Service at Armed Forces Medical Service Hospitals.

• Check the final NEET 2027 minimum-age rule when the official bulletin is released.
• Confirm that Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English meet the applicable qualifying-examination route.
• If the student is appearing for Class 12, keep the final marksheet ready before the required counselling stage.
• If Biology was added later, keep proof from the recognized board.
• If the student studied outside India, check equivalency requirements early.
