For eligible NRI students, AIIMS New Delhi is the strongest academic reference point because of its nationally documented research and teaching performance. Among the more established newer AIIMS, Rishikesh, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Bhopal, Patna and Raipur deserve close attention. Nagpur, Mangalagiri, Bathinda and Kalyani are further campuses worth comparing according to rank, location and institute readiness.
There is no official NRI-specific ranking of AIIMS colleges. This guide uses the published NIRF Medical ranking where available, historical NEET Open-category closing ranks and the Ministry of Health’s campus-operational status as evidence, alongside practical family considerations. A college appearing later in our comparison does not mean its teaching quality is poor.
A family residing overseas might misinterpret the phrase “AIIMS NRI quota.” There is no dedicated NRI-sponsored seat quota in AIIMS MBBS counseling. The NRIs who are Indian citizens can apply for admission based on their eligible quota through NEET UG and MCC. For an OCI or a foreign citizen candidate, other legal provisions need to be verified.
AIIMS New Delhi has historically shown a distinct Foreign Country Quota in MCC data. That category is not a substitute for an NRI quota, and a U.S. passport, OCI document or NRI sponsor does not automatically establish eligibility for it. For more detail, read AIIMS NRI Quota and AIIMS eligibility for NRI students.
| Candidate status | How to interpret AIIMS admission |
|---|---|
| Indian-citizen NRI | Competes through NEET and MCC under a category for which the candidate is eligible. |
| OCI candidate | Follow current nationality, citizenship and counselling requirements for the specific seat type. |
| Foreign national | Check provisions and documentation for any specifically notified foreign-national seats. |
| NRI-sponsored student | Sponsorship does not itself produce a reserved AIIMS MBBS seat. |
Parents often search for one definitive “top ten AIIMS” list, but ranking systems measure different things. NIRF assesses national medical institutions. NEET closing ranks reflect how competitive a seat was in a particular counselling round. Operational status indicates how far a campus has developed its academic and hospital services. None of those alone can capture the everyday undergraduate experience.
| Comparison factor | What NRI families should examine | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| NIRF Medical rank | A formally published national evaluation in a named year | That an AIIMS has special NRI seats |
| NEET closing AIR | Historical level of demand in a specified quota, category and round | That the same rank will secure admission next year |
| Clinical setting | Campus hospital services and patient-facing learning opportunities | Identical case load at all AIIMS |
| Location and travel | International travel routes, weather, support network and campus logistics | A shortcut to counselling eligibility |
| Hostel and fees | Published joining notice, deposits and recurring living costs | That every listed charge is annual tuition |
| AIIMS college | Location | NIRF Medical 2025 | Why families shortlist it |
|---|---|---|---|
| AIIMS New Delhi | Delhi | #1 | Established national research, teaching and clinical ecosystem |
| AIIMS Rishikesh | Uttarakhand | #13 | Established AIIMS campus; competitive admission |
| AIIMS Bhubaneswar | Odisha | #14 | Established campus and active teaching hospital |
| AIIMS Jodhpur | Rajasthan | #19 | Established national institute and competitive NEET ranks |
| AIIMS Bhopal | Madhya Pradesh | #25 | Established teaching hospital and national institute |
| AIIMS Patna | Bihar | #27 | Established campus with clinical facilities |
| AIIMS Raipur | Chhattisgarh | #31 | Established campus with clinical training infrastructure |
| AIIMS Nagpur | Maharashtra | Not top-50 listed | Newer high-demand option with operational services |
| AIIMS Mangalagiri | Andhra Pradesh | Not top-50 listed | Southern India option with operational academic services |
| AIIMS Bathinda | Punjab | Not top-50 listed | Northern India choice with growing clinical infrastructure |
The rows above are a practical shortlist, not an official ordered top-ten ranking. The NIRF column is specific to 2025. Families should always review the newest official information before finalizing college choices.

NIRF rankings and admission cutoffs serve different purposes. The NIRF ranking includes indicators like the quality of teaching, research, outcomes, and outreach/perception. A closing rank denotes the extent to which seats were filled in a specific round or category. A smaller numerical closing AIR suggests more selectivity, but not necessarily a good match for all applicants.
According to the 2025 NIRF Medical table, Rishikesh came in at position 13, whereas Jodhpur was at position 19. According to the 2026 General/Open Round 1 closing-rank reference, Jodhpur’s closure position was AIR 343, whereas that of Rishikesh was AIR 537. One criterion represents national institutional ranking; the other is specific to one particular year’s admissions requirements.
The first step to consider would be the NEET AIR of the student along with the category. The next step would be to compare multiple rounds of the same category and the same quota followed by checking whether the campus chosen is the one where the student will actually go. A more ambitious choice can be made above a less competitive choice.
It is essential that medical students must have much more than just the name of a college. Prior to joining any AIIMS, one must be aware of the fact that the teaching hospital attached to it is up and running or not, and the nature of the clinical posting system. It is only through the PMSSY list maintained by the Ministry of Health that this distinction can be made.
| Institute group | Campuses / examples | Practical parent check |
|---|---|---|
| Established AIIMS campuses | Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Patna, Raipur, Rishikesh | Compare clinical rotations, teaching departments and student accommodation |
| Newer AIIMS with MBBS and hospital activity | Bathinda, Bibinagar, Bilaspur, Deoghar, Gorakhpur, Guwahati, Jammu, Kalyani, Mangalagiri, Nagpur, Rajkot, Rae Bareli | Verify current ward services, posting schedule, hostel and facilities with the institute |
| Developing or changing infrastructure | Madurai and institutes shown in ministry development updates | Confirm current academic campus, patient-care infrastructure and joining location |
Although it may prove to be an academically sound decision to join a relatively new campus, the operations profile of the campus needs to be verified independently. Do not make the mistake of assuming that a temporary academic campus will have the same level of facilities as an established one. For developing campuses, or for a campus like Rewari of MCC, always refer to the official intake and joining notice.
NEET preparation for Indian-origin families in states like California, Texas, New Jersey, New York, Illinois, or any other state in the United States is best planned when they align it with the American high school calendar. The safest course is to ascertain the candidate's eligibility and subjects as early as possible and plan NEET preparations and Indian counseling documentation before MCC registration.
| Student situation | First thing to verify | College-selection implication |
|---|---|---|
| Indian passport holder living in the USA | NEET eligibility and foreign-school subject equivalence | Use actual eligible MCC seat category; there is no general paid AIIMS NRI seat |
| U.S. passport with OCI | Applicable OCI and counselling rules for the admission year | Do not assume Foreign Country Quota access automatically |
| American high school / AP courses | Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English qualification evidence and any required equivalence | Missing subjects can be a larger problem than the college shortlist |
| Family living abroad during counselling | Online registration access, document scans and institute reporting travel | Prioritize colleges the student can attend promptly if allotted |

Discuss an NEET plan that fits AP, IB, U.S. high school and overseas travel schedules before building the AIIMS shortlist.
AIIMS colleges admit the MBBS students based on the NEET UG and MCC system. There is no parallel NRI application for admission which does not require sitting for the examination or buying an AIIMS seat. This is the schedule that we will follow and dates, fees, and reporting guidelines depend upon the notice of that year.
| Stage | Student or parent action |
|---|---|
| Check eligibility | Verify citizenship/OCI status, minimum age, qualifying subjects and any overseas-board equivalency |
| Register for NEET UG | Apply under correct identity details and book a valid test location |
| Prepare and appear | Build NEET Physics, Chemistry and Biology mastery; obtain a result and All India Rank |
| Register for MCC counselling | Use the official counselling portal, correct category and valid documents |
| Review seat matrix | Check which campuses and quotas are listed in the particular counselling round |
| Fill and lock choices | Order colleges by the student’s genuine preference, rather than only past cutoffs |
| Check allotment | Read the official allotment letter and round-specific reporting instructions |
| Report to the institute | Present documents, satisfy medical verification and pay notified charges on time |
For the full admission workflow, see AIIMS admission process for NRI students.
AIIMS normally does not charge private college style NRI fee for its general category AIIMS NRI seats. The fees to be paid by the student will depend upon the category he is admitted through. Separate rules apply to the Foreign Country Quota of AIIMS, New Delhi. Do not mistake low published academic fees for total expenses of the student.
Parents should budget separately for notified academic charges, hostel and mess payments, books and equipment, travel between India and their country of residence, insurance or medical costs, and local transport. The campus location can affect recurring family costs even when academic fees are low.
NEET admit card & scorecard, MCC allotment certificate, Class 10/12 or equivalent, passport or some other acceptable identity document, photographs, and any OCI, category, or equivalence certificates that may be applicable to the candidate should be checked against the present reporting checklist. An NRI sponsorship affidavit should not be taken for granted as mandatory merely because the student studies overseas.

However, AIIMS, New Delhi, has the most favorable national ranking among all medical colleges according to the NIRF 2025 data table given above. But it also largely depends upon the NEET rank, eligibility category, and preferences of the candidate.
There is no general NRI-sponsored AIIMS MBBS seat category in the published MCC reference. Eligible candidates compete through NEET UG and MCC under their applicable categories.
A separately identified Foreign Country Quota has appeared for AIIMS New Delhi, but it is not the same as an NRI-sponsored quota. Eligibility depends on the applicable current rules.
No. Government operational-status reports distinguish established campuses from newer facilities and developing projects. Families should check the specific campus before choosing.
The 2026 General/Open Round 1 compilation used here shows closing AIR 343 for AIIMS Jodhpur. This is a historical category-specific reference, not an NRI cutoff or next-year guarantee.
The detailed comparison table covers 20 AIIMS MBBS campuses from a published 2026 Round 1 seat reference. New institute openings, permissions and later updates can change the active list.
Potentially yes, subject to nationality/OCI rules, NEET UG requirements, qualifying subjects, age and any required academic equivalency. A U.S. high school diploma by itself does not automatically establish every eligibility condition.
No blanket NRI sponsorship condition should be assumed for ordinary AIIMS merit-category admission. Prepare documents required by the candidate’s actual route and the reporting institution.
The general AIIMS MBBS admission route is through NEET UG and MCC counselling. Candidates should verify any special category provisions separately in the official rules.
Use both but for different purposes: NIRF describes national institutional performance in a specific year, while a closing rank describes a particular counselling allotment pattern. Combine both with campus fit and eligibility.
Not necessarily. An eligible Indian-category NRI student should not be confused with a candidate admitted under a specifically designated foreign-national category. Fee notices are admission-route and institute specific.
MCC publishes round-specific MBBS seat matrices, allotments and counselling notices. Confirm the exact quota and candidate category in the current admission-year official result.
