For a USA-based NRI student considering AIIMS New Delhi for MBBS, infrastructure is more than classrooms and laboratories. The student will move from the U.S. high-school system into a large academic medical environment that combines undergraduate teaching, major hospital services, simulation-based training, research facilities, digital learning, hostels and a highly active clinical ecosystem.
AIIMS New Delhi officially lists a wide range of central facilities, including the Dr. B.B. Dikshit Library, Central Animal Facility, Computer Facility, Central Workshop, Electron Microscope Facility, Stem Cell Facility, Telemedicine Facility and Medical Social & Welfare Services. It also operates advanced teaching and research facilities such as the SET Skills, e-Learning and Telemedicine Facility and the Centralized Core Research Facility.

| Infrastructure Area | What AIIMS New Delhi Provides | Why It Matters to a USA-Based NRI Student |
| Clinical Training | Teaching integrated with a major tertiary-care hospital and specialized centres. | Early exposure to a high-volume Indian clinical environment. |
| Simulation & Skills | SET Facility with dry skill lab, wet lab, simulation learning and telemedicine. | Helps bridge theory and hands-on medical skills. |
| Library | Dr. B.B. Dikshit Library with print, digital and remote-access resources. | Useful for students accustomed to U.S.-style digital academic resources. |
| Research | Centralized Core Research Facility, imaging/microscopy and other central research facilities. | Supports research exposure beyond the basic MBBS curriculum. |
| IT Infrastructure | Computer Facility, campus networking, software support and digital systems. | Supports e-learning, research and academic access. |
| Hostel | Undergraduate students are eligible for hostel accommodation, subject to allotment and availability. | Important for students relocating from the USA without family housing in Delhi. |
One of the biggest differences a U.S.-educated student may notice at AIIMS New Delhi is the scale and intensity of the hospital environment. AIIMS combines medical education with tertiary and super-specialty patient care. This means MBBS learning is not limited to lecture halls. Clinical rotations take place in an environment where students observe a broad range of medical conditions, diagnostic pathways and treatment decisions.
For an NRI student, this can require adjustment. U.S. high-school science courses may be highly structured and technology-rich, while Indian medical education places substantial emphasis on bedside learning, ward rounds, case presentation, practical examinations and direct clinical observation.
AIIMS New Delhi's SET Facility is designed for simulation-based medical education. The institute describes a Dry Skill Lab for basic and advanced medical skills, a Wet Lab used for cadaveric and surgical skill-development workshops, and modern studios supporting telemedicine and tele-education.
AIIMS also states that simulation-based learning is used for undergraduate, postgraduate and nursing education. For MBBS students, this gives an additional environment to practise skills before applying them in real wards and clinics.
| SET Component | Educational Use |
| Dry Skill Lab | Simulation and structured practice of clinical skills. |
| Wet Lab | Cadaveric and surgical-skill workshops. |
| Telemedicine Studios | Tele-education and collaboration with other institutions. |
| Simulation Modules | Hands-on learning in a controlled environment before clinical application. |
AIIMS New Delhi's Dr. B.B. Dikshit Library is a major academic resource for medical students. AIIMS describes the library as having print collections, journals, e-books, online databases, Wi-Fi, remote digital access and an e-reading hall.
The library's official pages list access to medical databases and resources such as BMJ Best Practice, BMJ Case Reports, UpToDate, Web of Science and AccessMedicine, along with extensive print and electronic holdings. This may feel more familiar to students coming from U.S. schools that already rely heavily on digital academic research.
| Library Feature | Student Benefit |
| Print Medical Collection | Textbooks, reference works, journals and theses. |
| E-Journals & Databases | Supports evidence-based learning and research. |
| Wi-Fi / E-Reading | Allows digital study using personal devices and library systems. |
| Remote Access | Some electronic resources can be accessed away from the physical library by eligible users. |
The AIIMS Computer Facility supports the institute's digital and network infrastructure. AIIMS states that the facility provides network support, software/application support, security, training and research-related technology services across the institute.
The institute's Computer Facility also supports hospital and academic systems, campus networking and digital services. For students, this contributes to access to online resources, institutional systems and technology-enabled teaching.
AIIMS is not only a teaching hospital. It also has substantial research infrastructure. The institute lists facilities such as the Centralized Core Research Facility, Electron Microscope Facility, Central Animal Facility, Stem Cell Facility and Central Workshop.
The Centralized Core Research Facility includes advanced imaging and microscopy platforms. AIIMS describes high-resolution microscopy systems designed for biomedical research, including live-cell imaging applications. These facilities are particularly relevant to students interested in research, academic medicine or future postgraduate training.
The Central Animal Facility supports approved institutional research involving laboratory animals under the institute's ethics framework. AIIMS lists laboratory, experimental and research-related activities within this facility.
For an undergraduate student, access to a major research ecosystem is more important than direct routine use of every central facility. Students interested in research can later work with faculty, departments and approved projects according to institutional rules.
AIIMS states that undergraduate students, including MBBS students, are eligible for hostel accommodation. However, eligibility does not mean an immediate single room is guaranteed. The Hostel Section notes that rooms are allotted according to waiting lists and that some undergraduate hostels can have waiting periods, with shared or transit accommodation used in some situations.
For a USA-based student, hostel planning should be treated as part of the relocation process. Families should confirm current allotment rules after admission rather than assuming the U.S.-style residential-campus model.
| Hostel Question | What USA Families Should Know |
| Are MBBS students eligible? | Yes, undergraduate students are eligible for hostel accommodation. |
| Is a room automatically guaranteed immediately? | Do not assume this. Allotment can depend on waiting lists and availability. |
| When should students apply? | AIIMS advises entrants interested in hostel accommodation to apply after joining as early as possible. |
| Should parents plan temporary accommodation? | It is sensible to keep a short-term backup plan until hostel allotment is confirmed. |
The seat table in the old version of this page is outdated. It listed only 72 Indian seats and 1 foreign-national seat at AIIMS New Delhi and showed an old seven-AIIMS structure. That should not be used for 2027 admission planning.
| AIIMS New Delhi MBBS Seat Reference | Latest Available AIIMS Prospectus |
| Indian Nationals | 125 seats |
| Foreign Nationals | 7 seats |
| 2027 Final Seat Matrix | Check the official 2027 AIIMS prospectus and MCC seat matrix when released. |
Important for NRI families: foreign-national seats are not the same as a general NRI quota. An Indian citizen living in the USA, an OCI cardholder and a U.S. citizen/foreign national can be treated differently under the applicable rules. Do not assume that being an NRI creates a reserved AIIMS seat.
The old page also described candidates being called physically for separate AIIMS counselling. That is outdated for current MBBS admissions. MCC conducts counselling for 100% of MBBS seats across AIIMS institutions. Students register online for MCC counselling after the NEET result, fill choices, receive allotment results and then report according to the allotted institute's instructions.
USA-based families should review MBBS Medical Admission Process for NRI Students and AIIMS NRI Quota Guide.
| USA Student Expectation | AIIMS Reality to Prepare For |
| Small high-school class environment | Large professional medical institute with classroom, lab, ward and clinical learning. |
| Heavy use of digital portals | AIIMS has digital resources, but learning also relies heavily on in-person clinical training. |
| Structured school counselling | Students need greater independence in academic planning and institutional processes. |
| U.S. dorm expectations | Hostel accommodation follows institute-specific allotment and availability rules. |
| Limited patient exposure before college | Medical education progresses into intensive hospital-based clinical exposure. |
Infrastructure is only one part of choosing AIIMS. USA-based NRI students must also understand NEET preparation, eligibility, U.S.-to-NEET syllabus gaps, foreign-school documents, counselling and admission planning.
