NEET and JEE To Be Held Twice A Year
NEET and JEE To Be Held Twice A Year from 2019 – says Prakash Javadekar (Union Human Resource Development Minister)
In 2018, Approximately 12 Lakh aspirants sat for JEE Examinations for admission into Engineering Institutions. There might be a possibility that many of them would not able to crack it and most of them are not satisfied by their scores, but for them the next opportunity would have come a year later. This will no longer be the case as on Saturday (7th July, 2018), Government announced that Students preparing for JEE Examination can sit for twice a year from 2019 and not only students who are preparing for Engineering but also for students who are preparing for NEET ( Medical Entrance Examination).
As per the schedule decided by Government, Aspirants preparing for JEE Main will be able to give paper in January and April and NEET Aspirants in February and May. This proposal will provide an extra chance to every student if he/she wouldn’t able to perform good in his/her earlier attempt.
These exams will be conducted online and the exams will be conducted by newly formed authority -National Testing Agency (NTA), which will be responsible for setting up the variations in difficulty level of both the papers in each course.
After determining the final scores of students, the marks that are obtained by students will determine their admissions in to several NITs, IITs and other Centrally Funded Government Institutions (CFIs) which together offer around 23900 engineering seats while NEET marks will determine admission to around 60000 medical seats.
Prakash Javadekar also said that, All the Computer-based Test will be conducted by NTA and not by the CBSE and other agencies like AICTE.
NTA will also conduct the Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test (GPAT) and Common Management Admission Test which was earlier conducted by AICTE.
A Senior HRD Official said that “We will ensure that the difficulty level of both the papers of JEE and NEET are same”. Because JEE and NEET will conduct twice a year so there will be a need to standardize the scores for both the papers.
The HRD Ministry also assures that the syllabus will remain same for each paper and there will be no increase in cost of applications.
In 2018, Approximately 2.5 lakh candidates sat for the Computer Based Test while others took Pen and Paper Based Exam. Javadekar says that “Computer will ensure security and Transparency of papers”.
According to NTA, they will soon provide a list of all the computer centres. Javadekar also ensures that exams are leak-proof and of International Standards.
