Complete Guide to JEE 2020 Paper 2 for B.Arch:
When it comes to seeking admission in Bachelor of Architecture and Bachelor of Planning in India, students must appear for JEE Mains Paper 2. It is an engineering entrance exam held once a year for students to secure a seat in Under Graduate B.Arch courses in CFTIs, SPAs & few other colleges.
Not only the students in India but the students residing abroad can also appear for JEE Mains Paper 2. The PIO, OCI & NRI Students whether they are from Oman, UAE, Singapore, UK or anywhere, can appear for this exam to pursue B.Arch from the top Indian Engineering & Architecture Universities.
Note: According to the latest update from DASA, from session 2021-22 onwards, JEE Mains Rank is mandatory for NRI/ PIO/ OCI/ FN Students to be eligible for DASA & CIWG Schemes. Hence, 2020-21 will be the last year when SAT 2 scores will be considered for DASA/CIWG Scheme.
What is JEE Paper 2 and why it is important for architecture aspirants?
There are two JEE Mains exam.
JEE Paper 1 is for admissions into B.Tech / B.E. and JEE paper 2 is for the admission process for courses like B.Arch. and B.Planning.
Apart from that, JEE is divided into 2 phases: JEE Mains & JEE Advanced. Firstly, the students who clear JEE Mains are only eligible for JEE Advanced. In the Advanced Phase, Paper 2 is also known as JEE AAT (Architecture Aptitude Test).
Eligibility Criteria for JEE Mains 2020 Paper 2:
For JEE Main 2020 Paper 1 and 2, the eligibility criteria are the same. It is as shown below.
The candidate must have passed Grade 12th or equivalent exam in the year of 2018 or 2019 with at least 50% marks in subjects, especially in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Furthermore, they must have Physics, Chemistry, and Maths as compulsory subjects.
If, in 2020, you are appearing for the Grade 12th or equivalent exam, you can apply for the JEE Mains.
If you are a diploma holder who has passed or pursuing the final year of the degree, you can appear for JEE.
As a matter of fact, the last JEE Main Paper 2 was taken on 7th April 2019 and approximately 1.8 Lakh students appeared.
JEE Main Paper 2 exam pattern:
The JEE Main Paper 2 has a total of 3 sections called- Mathematics, Aptitude Test and Drawing test. The total time duration for the paper 2 is 3 hours and the total number of questions is 83.
The marks weightage:
Maths section has 30 questions with 120 marks.
Aptitude test has 50 questions and 200 marks.
Drawing test has 3 questions with 70 marks.
The first two sections are objective type & computer based test (CBT) & the third is pen & paper of its drawing aspect.
B.Arch Syllabus for JEE Mains 2020 Paper 2:
Mathematics:
For the maths section, the syllabus contains sequences and series, Trigonometry, Permutations and Combinations, Quadratic equations, Relations and Functions, Induction, Vector Algebra, Differential Equation, Mathematical Reasoning, Binomial theorem and other concepts such as Limit and Continuity, Matrices and Determinants, Three Dimensional Geometry, etc.
Aptitude test:
3D object visualization from 2D drawing, 3D object visualization, analytical reasoning, mental ability, texture Architecture, build and environment awareness and concepts like objects and materials.
Drawing test:
Contrast harmony, 2D and 3D composition creation, 3D observations, element and form building, geometrical forms and shapes forming in pencil, elevations and 3D object viewing, etc.
Tips for B.Arch JEE Mains Paper 2 preparations
- Understand and learn concepts rather than reading the concepts and moving on. Don't forget to refer class 11 and 12 textbooks of NCERT
- Make a strict timetable that covers all the topics and gives adequate time for each section. If you are good at drawing, don't just give it less time as you need to prepare it thoroughly even if you are good at it.
- For aptitude and drawing tests, work on your observation skills. If you are not good enough at drawings, enrol for the drawing classes.
- Solve precious JEE Main Paper 2 question papers from online sources to get a good grasp at concepts. Go for Online mocks tests too. It will improve your pace and practice.
