DASA is available to students belonging to specified overseas and foreign-national categories.

DASA Eligibility for NRI Students in USA

NRI families living in the United States frequently search for DASA because it provides an admission route to participating Indian technical institutes.

A USA-based Indian NRI student may be eligible if the student satisfies all required conditions.

OCI stands for Overseas Citizen of India.

DASA Eligibility for Foreign National Students

Foreign Nationals are candidates who hold citizenship of a country other than India.

NRI vs OCI vs PIO vs Foreign National for DASA

DASA Age Eligibility 2027–28

For DASA UG 2027–28, candidates should have been:

Born on or after October 1, 2002.

The candidate's date of birth is generally verified using the Class 10 or equivalent secondary-school certificate or another accepted government-issued document.

Is There No Age Limit for DASA?

No.

Older online content may state that:

“There is no age limit for DASA.”

That should not be used for the current undergraduate framework.

DASA UG uses an admission-cycle-specific date-of-birth requirement.

DASA Academic Eligibility

Candidates applying through DASA should have passed:

Class 12 or an equivalent recognised qualifying examination.

Academic eligibility has three main components:

Required subjects

Minimum aggregate marks or CGPA

Correct JEE Main paper

DASA Eligibility for B.E./B.Tech

DASA does not conduct a separate undergraduate entrance examination.

Is There a Minimum JEE Main Score for DASA Eligibility?

A cutoff indicates the level of rank competition for a particular programme or institute.

There is no single JEE Main score that guarantees admission to every programme.

Is Class 12 From a Foreign School Accepted for DASA?

Yes, an eligible Class 12 or equivalent qualification from abroad may be accepted if it meets the required recognition and equivalence conditions.

Students may study under systems such as:

US High School Diploma

International Baccalaureate

Cambridge International

British curriculum

CBSE schools outside India

Other recognised foreign curricula

Candidates should ensure that their qualification is recognised as equivalent to the required Indian 10+2 qualification.

An equivalence certificate may be required in some cases.

Can a Student Appearing for Class 12 Apply for DASA?

Students appearing for their qualifying examination may generally apply provisionally if permitted under the applicable DASA rules.

However, provisional application does not remove the final academic requirement.

The student must eventually:

Pass the qualifying examination

Meet the required aggregate

Have the required subjects

Submit the final result within the prescribed deadline

Meet all other DASA eligibility conditions

If the student fails to meet the final academic criteria, provisional registration alone does not make the student eligible.

Case 1: Indian NRI Student Studying in USA

The student holds an Indian passport and completes Classes 11 and 12 in the USA.

Case 2: NRI Parents in USA but Student Studies in India

The parents live in the USA, but the Indian student completes Classes 11 and 12 in India.

Case 3: US Citizen With OCI Card Studying in India

The student is a US citizen, holds an OCI card and studies Class 12 in India.

Eligibility position: Eligibility depends on the candidate's applicable OCI/foreign-national classification. The Indian NRI study-abroad condition should not automatically be applied.

Case 4: Indian Student Studying in UAE

The student holds an Indian passport and completes Classes 11 and 12 in the UAE.

Eligibility position: The student may satisfy the overseas-study requirement if all remaining DASA criteria are met.

Case 5: Foreign Citizen With No Indian Passport

The student holds a foreign passport and satisfies the required academic and JEE Main conditions.

Eligibility position: The candidate may qualify under the applicable Foreign National category.

Case 6: Class 11 in India and Class 12 in USA

An Indian NRI candidate completes only the final school year abroad.

Eligibility position: This would generally not satisfy a two-year overseas-study requirement that includes Classes 11 and 12.

Confirm whether the student falls under NRI, OCI, PIO or Foreign National eligibility.

2. Age

Check the applicable date-of-birth requirement.

3. Class 12 Qualification

4. Required Subjects

Ensure the correct subjects have been studied for B.Tech, B.Arch or B.Plan.

5. Minimum Marks

For USA-based NRI students, one of the most important questions is whether the student—not only the parents—has completed the required period of education abroad.

For OCI, PIO and Foreign National students, the candidate's exact citizenship and admission classification should be checked carefully because the residential requirement may differ from that of an Indian NRI candidate.
