DASA Counselling Process
DASA counselling is the official seat-allotment process for eligible NRI/OCI/PIO/Foreign National students — including those living in the USA and Middle East, to secure admission in NITs, IIITs, CFTIs and SPAs through JEE Main Rank & Percentile.
The entire counselling is conducted online through the official DASA portal and includes registration, document verification, choice filling, seat allotment, and final admission confirmation.
Step-by-Step Counselling Procedure
1. Online Registration
Eligible candidates must register on the official DASA website by creating a login ID, verifying email-ID, and filling basic personal details, country of residence, and academic qualifications.
Important: Applicants from the USA and Middle East must correctly mention foreign nationality/NRI status while registering.
2. Uploading Documents
Students must upload scanned copies of required documents such as:
Passport
Parent employment proof (for CIWG)
10th & 12th grade mark-sheets
Birth certificate
JEE Main Score Card
NRI Status proof (if applicable)
(Document verification deadlines and formats must be checked in the official 2025–26 brochure once released.)
3. Fee Payment
Registration fee + tuition fee for the first semester must be paid online through:
Debit/Credit card
SWIFT Transfer
Fee differs based on category:
CIWG students (including eligible Gulf-based NRIs) pay tuition similar to Indian students
Non-CIWG DASA candidates pay international fee rates
4. Choice Filling
Candidates must list their preferred institutes and branches in priority order. Seats are allotted based on:
JEE Main Rank
Choice preference
Category (CIWG / Non-CIWG)
Seat availability
Tip for USA & Middle East NRIs: Include multiple top NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs that match your expected rank to avoid missing allotment.
5. Seat Allotment Rounds
Seat allotment is done in multiple rounds based on JEE Main rank and seat matrix. Status shown online:
Allotted / Not allotted
Branch & Institute offered
CIWG/Non-CIWG classification
Candidates can:
Accept the seat
Float for higher preference
Withdraw
6. Confirmation of Seat
Once a seat is allotted and accepted:
Candidate must upload remaining documents
Complete institutional admission procedures
Follow joining deadlines given by the allotted institute
If CIWG seats remain unfilled, they are transferred to DASA-General category as per standard policy.
7. Reporting to the Institute
After final allotment, students must physically or digitally report to the allotted institute (as instructed), complete document verification, and join the academic session.
The DASA/CIWG 2026 opening and closing rank lists show the JEE Main rank range at which NRI candidates (CIWG & Non-CIWG) were allotted seats across NITs, IIITs, SPAs, and CFTIs. These round-wise rank lists help students from the USA and Middle East understand admission trends and plan their institute preferences accordingly.
The Round-1 opening and closing ranks for DASA/CIWG 2026 have been released. NRI students from the USA and Middle East can now check the rank range required for admission in various institutes. Download the complete PDF of Round-1 cut-offs using the link provided below.
Q1. Where can I check the official DASA/CIWG Round-1 Cut-Off for 2026? The official DASA/CIWG 2026 Round-1 opening and closing ranks are released on the DASA portal. Students, especially NRIs in the USA and Middle East, can download the complete PDF from the official site or from linked documents shared in admission notices.
Q2. What does the Round-1 DASA/CIWG cut-off actually show? Round-1 cut-offs represent the JEE Main opening and closing ranks at which NRIs (CIWG and Non-CIWG) received seat allotments in NITs, IIITs, CFTIs, and SPAs. They help students understand previous admission trends and expected competitiveness for DASA/CIWG seats.
Q3. Are CIWG and Non-CIWG cut-offs shown separately? Yes. DASA publishes separate cut-off lists for CIWG and Non-CIWG categories. NRIs in Gulf-based CIWG benefit from reserved seats, while U.S. and other international NRIs fall under Non-CIWG unless parent employment in Gulf nations is proven with official documentation.
Q4. Why do Round-1, Round-2 and Round-3 cut-offs differ every year? Each round’s cut-off changes due to seat withdrawals, category shifts, student re-ordering of preferences, availability of seats and shifting demand for certain branches or campuses. More movement leads to different opening and closing ranks for CIWG and Non-CIWG candidates.
Q5. How can I analyze my admission chances using Round-1 cut-offs? Compare your JEE Main rank with the previous Round-1 closing cut-offs for your preferred branch and institution. If your rank is better than last year’s closing position, your chances are stronger. Strategic branch and campus choices also affect outcomes during counselling.
Q6. Do top branches like CSE generally have higher cut-offs? Yes. Computer Science Engineering, IT, Artificial Intelligence and ECE at popular NITs and IIITs usually show the highest cut-offs due to intense competition from NRI students in the USA, Gulf, and other regions seeking placements and trending technology specialization programs.
Q7. Are cut-offs different for NRIs in the USA and Middle East? No. All NRIs share a common merit system under DASA counselling. However, Gulf-based NRIs whose parents are employed in approved Middle East countries may qualify for CIWG quota, which offers reserved seats and lower tuition when compared to standard international DASA seats.
Q8. Can CIWG students apply in the Non-CIWG cut-off list also? Yes. If a CIWG-eligible candidate does not secure a seat through CIWG allocation, they are automatically considered in the Non-CIWG DASA seat pool based on their JEE Main rank. The reverse is not permitted for standard DASA applicants lacking CIWG eligibility documents.
Q9. Why do some campuses show very high opening ranks for Round-1? High opening ranks usually occur at highly-preferred institutes with better placement history, competitive academic environments, trending branches like AI, DS, CS, and limited seats. Students with strong JEE rank prioritize these campuses first, increasing Round-1 selection difficulty.
Q10. Is JEE Main score or percentile used for creating cut-offs? DASA/CIWG admissions rely on JEE Main percentile and All-India Rank, not raw marks. SAT is discontinued since 2021. Merit lists, closing ranks, counselling order and category allocations for NRI students in USA and Middle East are all processed strictly through JEE Main results.
