The table below reflects the NTA NEET UG 2026 Information Bulletin, Chapter 3. File specifications may change in future years. Save clean, readable scans before opening the registration form.
| Document | Who needs it | 2026 upload rule or check |
|---|---|---|
| Passport / accepted identity proof | All applicants | Use valid identity information. A non-Aadhaar/non-DigiLocker verification route may require an identity scan and additional checks. |
| Live photograph | All applicants | Captured during the 2026 application; NTA provided a webcam/QR method. |
| Recent passport-size photograph | All applicants | JPG/JPEG, 10–200 KB; face visible with a white background. 2026 notice required a photo taken after 1 January 2026. |
| Signature | All applicants | JPG/JPEG, 10–100 KB. |
| Left/right hand fingers and thumb impressions | All applicants | JPG/JPEG, 10–200 KB. |
| Class 10 / equivalent certificate and marksheet | All applicants | Each PDF 50–300 KB; add grade-to-percentage conversion if the equivalent marks are in CGPA. |
| Present and permanent address proof | All applicants | PDF 50–300 KB under the 2026 upload specifications. |
| NRI / OCI / foreign-national proof | Applicable applicants | Diplomatic Mission certificate or acceptable documentary nationality proof; PDF 50–300 KB under the 2026 list. |
| Category or PwD/PwBD documentation | Only when claimed | Prescribed certificates, including UDID and scribe/physical-limitation materials as applicable. |
The correct identity route depends on the student’s citizenship and which verification method the live NTA form accepts. An overseas residential address or a parent’s U.S. work visa does not make the student a foreign national.
| Student situation | Prepare | Check before submitting |
|---|---|---|
| Indian passport holder living in the USA | Valid Indian passport; any accepted NTA identity method; address documents | Do not assume an Aadhaar card is mandatory for every valid identity pathway; follow the current portal requirements. |
| U.S.-passport student with OCI | Valid U.S. passport plus OCI card and applicable Indian Mission documents | Select nationality/status carefully. OCI is not Indian citizenship. |
| Foreign national without OCI | Valid foreign passport or other prescribed nationality certificate | Counselling and seat eligibility may be restricted or differ by institution. |
| Child on H-4 / parent on H-1B | Student’s own citizenship/ID proof; parent’s NRI status only where relevant | A U.S. visa does not replace the student’s nationality document or prove quota eligibility automatically. |
Yes, where the candidate claims NRI/OCI status under the 2026 NTA rules. Chapter 6 of the 2026 NTA bulletin asks NRI and OCI applicants to upload a certificate from the concerned Indian Diplomatic Mission in their country of residence in support of their claim, and to retain the original for counselling or admission.
NTA’s 2026 bulletin includes its NRI embassy-certificate format in Appendix VI, and documentary citizenship proof for OCI/foreign applicants in Appendix VII. This is separate from any NRI-sponsorship affidavit that MCC or a state may later require.
| Document | Used at which stage? | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Indian Mission NRI / OCI certificate | NEET application when NRI/OCI status is claimed; original may also be needed later | Use the prescribed current-year form and the mission appropriate to residence. |
| Foreign passport / nationality proof | NEET nationality verification and counselling | Does not by itself prove that a private-college NRI seat is available. |
| Sponsor’s NRI certificate | NRI quota counselling when sponsorship is claimed | Needed for MCC/state category verification, not a universal extra document for all exam applicants. |
| NRI sponsorship / guardianship affidavit | Counselling for eligible NRI quota subcategories | Not a substitute for a passport, OCI card or NTA identity proof. |
Review whether your family needs NTA nationality proof, MCC sponsorship evidence or both.

The NTA had defined the documents to be shown during the exam day for NEET UG 2026 as follows. An NRI student has to fulfill all the identity document requirements during the examination, apart from those individually stated on the admit card.
| Carry to the centre | What to check |
|---|---|
| Printed NTA admit card | Download the correct year’s admit card and affix the passport-size photograph as instructed. |
| One additional passport photograph | Use the same photograph as on the submitted form, for the attendance sheet. |
| One postcard-size photograph | 2026 NTA instructions specified a 4 × 6 inch photograph with white background on the proforma downloaded with the admit card. |
| Valid original photo ID | Bring a permitted original: the 2026 list included passport, Aadhaar, PAN, voter ID, driving licence and specified digital-ID options. |
| PwBD / physical-limitation certificate | Only for a candidate claiming the relevant accessibility provision. |
Those who have studied in the USA typically possess a high school diploma and subject wise transcripts, instead of the Indian Class 10 and Class 12 board papers. Maintain your academic documents from an early stage and see the way in which NTA accepts this foreign qualification.
| Academic document | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Official high school transcript | Shows Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English courses, credits and completion dates. |
| High school diploma / completion certificate | Shows the final qualification awarded by the school. |
| Course descriptions or school syllabus | Useful where course titles such as Integrated Science, Honors Biology or AP Chemistry need explanation. |
| AP examination results, if applicable | Supporting academic records; not an automatic replacement for all required Class 12 subjects. |
| IB Diploma and subject-level results, if applicable | Shows the precise subjects and levels studied. |
| Grade-conversion or equivalence certificate, if required | Relevant when foreign grades or qualifications must be established as equivalent by the competent authority. |

Following NEET results, the MBBS counseling process has its own registration, choice filling, eligibility verification, and physical reporting phases. The MCC coordinates with the centrally or deemed universities; other state private or government NRI categories have their own state counseling processes. There is no such common checklist that overrides state-specific guidelines.
| General counselling document | Purpose |
|---|---|
| NEET UG scorecard and All India Rank | Establishes the candidate’s examination result. |
| NEET admit card / application details | Cross-checks identity and examination records. |
| Class 10 and Class 12/equivalent marksheets and certificates | Establish age and academic qualification. |
| Valid passport, OCI or nationality evidence | Establishes applicant identity and status. |
| MCC or state counselling registration and payment record | Shows valid registration and the authority concerned. |
| Applicable NRI proof, sponsorship and relationship documents | Required only for the category/subcategory actually claimed. |
| Provisional allotment letter | Needed after seat allotment for reporting. |
| Original certificates and required copies | Checked at the allotted medical college. |

|---|---|
| Photograph, signature, thumb/finger images | NEET scorecard, academic records and counselling application |
| Passport or accepted exam identity details | Candidate and sponsor passport / OCI details as applicable |
| Indian Mission certificate for NRI/OCI claim under 2026 NTA bulletin | NRI status and relationship proof for a quota claim |

| Confirmation page and fee payment record | Counselling eligibility/verification, choice filling and allotment |
A student who qualifies NEET is not automatically approved for an NRI quota seat. Eligibility under the relevant category is verified separately. Similarly, NRI status does not remove the NEET requirement.
MCC bulletin of 2026 mentions that for opting for NRI during counselling registration, one must select an appropriate sub-category, upload required documents, undergo online document verification and make NRI options available post successful verification.
| Step | Student or parent action |
|---|---|
| 1. Identify the counselling route | Check whether the target college is in MCC’s list or a state counselling authority. |
| 2. Confirm NRI subcategory | Match the applicant’s actual status to MCC’s or the state’s eligibility definitions. |
| 3. Create labelled files | Store NEET/academic, nationality, mission, sponsor/bank and relationship records separately. |
| 4. Register and select the correct option | For MCC NRI quota, select the NRI category and applicable subcategory at counselling registration. |
| 5. Upload and verify | Submit readable scans of the required category documents and monitor official verification notices. |
| 6. Fill college choices | Use only currently available and eligible choices after the required verification. |
| 7. Prepare for reporting | Keep allotment letter, original documents, required copies and payment receipts. |
For a broader explanation of admission routes, see NRI Quota MBBS Admission in India.
| Family example | Document priorities | Do not assume |
|---|---|---|
| Indian-citizen high school student on H-4 | Student passport and visa, U.S. academic transcript, NEET application records, any NRI certificate required for the claim | H-4 immigration status alone guarantees a particular NRI quota. |
| U.S. citizen with OCI card | U.S. passport, OCI card, Indian Mission documents for applicable claim, U.S. high school records | OCI is an Indian passport or automatically qualifies for all reserved seats. |
| Indian-citizen student with NRI parent | Identity card and school certificates of the student; proof of NRI status and relation, affidavit or bank documents if applying for NRI quota. | Parent’s U.S. residence replaces all student documents. |
| Student with non-parent NRI sponsor | Student record plus sponsor identity, legal relationship/guardianship proof and permitted financial affidavit | An uncle/aunt or family friend can sponsor any college’s NRI category automatically. |
For every scenario, the final decision belongs to NTA for examination requirements and the applicable counselling authority or institution for admission-category documentation.
Share the student’s nationality, school curriculum, NEET stage and proposed NRI sponsor.
Example 1, Indian passport with H-4: The student prepares the passport, current U.S. high-school transcript and NEET uploads. If seeking an NRI seat through an NRI parent, the parent’s separate NRI documents are checked during counselling.
Example 2, U.S. citizen with OCI: Keep both the U.S. passport and OCI card. Confirm the category permitted by the latest counselling bulletin; an OCI card does not replace the NEET scorecard or school qualification.
Example 3, sponsor is not a parent: Do not prepare an informal aunt/uncle sponsorship letter as if it were universally valid. Check exactly which relationships or legal guardianships the chosen counselling authority accepts.
Passport / ID, proof from Indian Mission if required, photo, signature, Class 10, and address proof scan.
Class 10/12 transcript & certificate, AP/IB, science subject, conditional equivalence.
MCC/state application, NRI certificate, sponsor affidavit, bank/relationship/guardianship proof where required.
NEET scorecard, admit card, seat allotment, originals, copies, photos and required receipts.
Use filenames such as Student_Passport.pdf, NEET_Scorecard.pdf and Sponsor_Relationship.pdf. Keep a separate offline copy with the parent and the student. This is a document-organization suggestion, not an NTA file-naming mandate.
If a document is inconsistent, follow the current NTA correction policy or the counselling authority’s prescribed remedy. Do not upload altered records or create unofficial substitutes.
This is merely the first step in the process. Take a look at the video on the difference between examination eligibility, NRI Category and college counseling and come back to the specific checklist below.

The NEET preparation course for the student must be selected considering his/her class, current level of Physics Chemistry Biology knowledge, foreign school schedule load, and remaining NEET syllabus. The NEET preparation course for the NRI student must match well with the schedule of U.S., IB, Cambridge, etc. international schools.

For the NEET 2026 examinations, aspirants have made their arrangements regarding identity and address proof, photos, signatures, fingerprints/thumbprints, certificates of Class 10 or equivalent, and necessary documents for NRIs, OCIs, and foreign nationals. Other category/disability documents were optional.
Wrong. OCI is different from Indian citizenship. OCI seeker must have a valid passport along with OCI document according to the NTA counseling guidelines.
The 2026 NTA bulletin described alternative identity-verification methods while warning that extra identity checks may be required. Follow the live form for the relevant year.
Under the 2026 NTA bulletin, NRI and OCI applicants claiming that status were instructed to upload a certificate from the concerned Indian Diplomatic Mission and retain the original.
No. NEET registration is related to examination and identification. Counselling for NRI quota may need proof of sponsorship, kinship, guardianship, embassy, and bank accounts.
Not by itself. The student’s citizenship, NRI status and applicable sponsor relationship must meet the chosen authority’s criteria.
Not automatically in every case. It depends on the qualification and relevant NTA/admission category rules. Keep transcripts, course details and any prescribed equivalence records.
In case of the category MCC 2026 NRI, important papers would be NRI consular certificate, NRE bank proof, financial affidavit of sponsorship, verification of relationship papers, and academic records including NEET.
Only where the applicable rules allow it and required legal guardianship/relationship evidence is accepted. MCC 2026 required bona fide guardianship proof for the relevant route.
NTA 2026 asked for the printed admit card with passport photograph, another matching passport photograph, and a postcard-size photograph on the prescribed proforma.
Yes. The current allotment and joining instructions generally require original academic, identity and relevant category documents; prepare extra copies when prescribed.
Use them as a planning reference only. The official NEET 2027 bulletin and active application portal must confirm the final file formats and limits.
The greatest risk to the overseas candidate is confusion between the registration process and that of NRI quota.
