Scheme of written exam:
The competitive written examination will be of 3 hours duration and will have one paper comprising of 180 objective types of questions for 180 marks, as under:

Each correct answer fetches one mark for the candidate. However wrong answers will have negative marks and for each wrong answer, 0.25 marks will be deducted. Uses of calculator, Mobile phone, Bluetooth, PDA, and log tables are not permitted in the examination.
The general standard of the entrance examination will be that of the 11th and 12th class under the 10 +2 scheme/Pre-medical / intermediate science or an equivalent examination of the CBSE/State Education Board/Indian University.
Distribution of seats:
(i) Those candidates who have passed both the SSC (or equivalent) and 12th standard (or equivalent) examination from the Schools/Colleges situated in Maharashtra only, are treated as Maharashtra candidates.
- All other eligible candidates, who have passed their SSC (or equivalent) and /or 12th standard or its an equivalent examination from outside Maharashtra are treated as Non-Maharashtra candidates.
Reservation: 50% of seats are reserved for Maharashtra Candidates and 50% for candidates from other states (subject to change by the concerned authorities).
- Seats are reserved for nominees of Govt, of Maharashtra, as per rules.

Entrance Examination:
Selection is made on the basis of the Pre-Medical Entrance Test, which is held at Delhi, Nagpur, Hyderabad, and Mumbai, consists of the following two papers:
Paper I. Paper I is a common question paper in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry & Biology consisting of 180 multiple choice single response type questions (60 questions in each subject). The candidate is expected to attempt all the 180 questions in the Common Answer Sheet out of four circles provided for selection of answer against a question, the candidate should shade one circle only. Each correct answer is given one mark. There is no negative marking for wrong answers. The duration of the paper is of 180 minutes.
Paper-II: Paper II is on Gandhian thought and carries 60 marks. It is three hours duration and the questions are of essay type and/or short answer question type. The paper may be answered either in English or Hindi.
The medium of language for all question papers: English only.
Note: Admission to the MBBS course of Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences is made according to the rules & regulations of the Kasturba Health Society (the parent body) and the institute (MGIMS). These are subject to alterations, amendments, and modifications as may be considered necessary from time to time as per directions from the Government of India, Maharashtra Government, Supreme Court, MCI, and the Competent Authorities of K.H.S./MGIMS.
