Hi, I’m TestprepKart.
Your Partner In Exam Preparation
Hello and welcome to the TestprepKart channel, this video is important for NRIs in the US, Middle East and for that matter NRIs across the globe who are looking for Medical Admission clarity in terms of the process involved.
Let’s understand the basic admission process step by step for NRI students. At the end of this video, do comment below if you have any questions, we will be happy to answer.
Now, let’s start our structured Admission Process Steps.
Step 1: NEET-UG Qualification – Every NRI / OCI / Foreign National must appear and qualify NEET-UG, just like Indian students. Without NEET, no medical admission is possible in India. NEET examination is conducted by NTA known as National Testing Agency.
So, at first you start your medical journey for India by preparing for NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) . This is one and only test you should be preparing for and your Medical admission process will start after getting your NEET exam score.
Now, let’s assume you have got your NEET score this year. By the way, the NEET exam is of 720 marks and let’s say you have secured 450 marks out of 720. Based on your secured marks you will be assigned a “Rank”. This rank is very important for the rest of the discussion.
What you should do right after results:
1. Download scorecard and rank letter. 2. Check the qualifying status. 3. Start shortlisting colleges across Deemed, Private, and Govt (AIQ) where your rank could realistically fit.
Quick tips:
1. If you studied IB/AP/US High School: ensure PCB + English in Grade 12 and keep equivalence/attestation ready. If you are unsure about it, please follow our link in the description to know how to get it done.
2. Keep your passport/OCI and identity docs current; they’ll be needed soon. The same link in the deception will help!
So, this was about step number 1, and just for your convenience, I have prepared a PDF document of this video, which you can download from the link in the description.
Step 2: Counseling Notification – The real game start from here. As NEET was conducted by NTA, Medical admission counseling is conducted by 2 bodies.
We will talk about these 2 in detail but before that let’s understand the context of this step first.
After getting your NEET results and rank, MCC releases the counseling schedule which specifies who all will be called in the first round of counseling for medical admission. Medical admission seats are allotted on the basis of rank secured in the NEET exam. Your NEET score will determine your NEET rank. Rank 1 will be getting the medical college of this choice and subsequently it will move on to the other ranks. The lower your rank is, lower are your chances of getting admission in your preferred medical college.
In NRIs case, the cut off score is usually less compared to the Indian student. Which means under NRI quota admission, NRI students can still get a better college with low NEET score. So, that’s an advantage for NRI students.
Now, let’s talk about MCC and State Authorities.
1. MCC – MCC can help you get admission in following colleges in India.
In a nutshell – NRI quota seats also known as AIQ seats are managed by MCC.
2. State counseling authorities manage state government and private medical colleges.
The question here is what should you do being an NRI?
You’ll likely open two tracks in parallel for keeping both options intact:
Dates don’t always perfectly align—so maintain a calendar of all portals you’re targeting.
So, this was our second step. Before we move on and go to the 3rd step. Do not forget to download our NRIs NEET Preparation Guide from the link in the description below.
Step 3: Registration & Choice Filling – Once the schedule is out you will get to know the dates and you should register on MCC portal – this portal will help you submit your application for medical college preference and it will record your scorecard, rank and your score. The same can be done in the case of state authorities as I explained to you earlier.
Candidates register online on the MCC portal, pay the counseling/NRI fee, and select their preferred colleges. If you have an Indian number – then do register with it, this will help you get notifications on SMS also. US numbers or any other foreign number might not get those SMS.
Let’s take an example and understand this better.
This is what we call the Registration and Choice Filling process on MCC and State admission portals.

Step 4: Seat Allotment – Based on NEET score, cut-off trends, and choices filled, MCC or the state authority allots seats. For NRI quota, the cut-offs are usually lower than general seats, but fees are higher.
The MCC admission portal runs the allotment algorithm using your rank + preferences + seat availability. Based on this you are likely to either get Allotted a seat, Not allotted (carry forward), or Upgradable status (if system allows).
Lets understand this as well with an example.
MCC usually conducts 1st, 2nd and 3rd rounds of counseling. If you’re not allotted medical seats in Round 1, you stay in the game for Round 2 without starting over (MCC rules vary—always check the year’s brochure).
In the next few days, I will be making a detailed video on NEET Counseling Round 1, 2 and 3 with statistics. This will help you know the admission given to NRIs under NRI quota in colleges. This will also help you know at what rank, which college was allotted.
Moving forward to an easy and straight forward step 5 now which is “Reporting To College”
Step 5: Reporting to College – Once allotted, the candidate must report physically to the college with all required documents (passport, OCI card, NEET scorecard, sponsorship affidavit, etc.) within the given deadline.
Step 6: Further Rounds – If not allotted in Round 1, candidates can participate in Round 2, Mop-Up, and Stray Vacancy rounds.
So, this brings an end to this topic. If this video helped you in any manner, do consider subscribing to the TestprepKart NRIs channel. For all your doubts and queries, do comment below and we will reply to you.
