For NEET 2026, NRI students should keep their passport, NRI certificate from the Indian embassy or consulate, Class 10 and Class 12 documents, NEET admit card, scorecard and recent photographs ready. Students applying through an NRI sponsor may also be asked for the sponsor’s passport, overseas visa or residence proof, proof of relationship or guardianship and a sponsorship affidavit. Documents such as the transfer certificate, migration certificate, vaccination record and medical fitness certificate are generally checked at the college-reporting stage and may not be required by every institution.
The document list changes from one stage to another. The table below shows what candidates are usually asked to keep ready during the application, NRI verification, counselling and college-reporting stages.

While completing the online form, upload clear and readable files in the format and file size prescribed by NTA. Poor-quality scans can cause avoidable problems later.

This set of documents is used to verify overseas status and, in sponsored cases, to show how the sponsor is related to the student.
Keep clear copies of the candidate’s passport and the passport of the parent or sponsor. Check that the name, passport number, issue date and expiry date are easy to read.
The parent or sponsor may be asked to provide a valid visa, work permit or residence permit as proof of living overseas. An NRI student who holds an Indian passport does not automatically need an Indian student visa.
NRI and OCI applicants should obtain the required certificate from the Indian embassy or consulate in their country of residence. Keep the original safely, as it may be checked during counselling or college admission.

Carry the original marksheet and passing certificate. Colleges commonly use these documents to confirm the candidate’s name and date of birth.
Carry the original Class 12 marksheet and passing certificate showing the required subjects. Students from international boards should also keep the relevant equivalence certificate ready, where applicable.

Once a seat has been allotted, take every required original document to the college along with the number of photocopies mentioned in its reporting instructions.

Keep a vaccination record ready only if the medical college or hostel includes it in the joining requirements.
Ask the school for the original transfer or school-leaving certificate if the allotted college has listed it as compulsory.
Where a fitness certificate is required, use the format prescribed by the medical college rather than a general certificate.
Keep six to eight identical passport-size photographs, preferably the same photograph used in the NEET application.
A migration certificate is not required simply because a student is applying under the NRI category. Arrange it only when the university, board or allotted medical college specifically asks for it.
