NEET / MBBS NRI 15% Quota Seats Explained
NRI Quota is often interchangeably used for AIQ (All India Quota), which creates confusion for NRI students and parents. AIQ and NRI quota are not the same. The 15% All India Quota refers to seats contributed by participating states from government medical colleges and administered through MCC.
To simplify this further, we can understand this in another way. So, every participating state will contribute 15% of their government medical college seats to the All India Quota pool. This pool is not reserved only for NRI students.
NRI, OCI and PIO candidates may be shown NRI category seats and General Seats of All India Quota and Seats of Deemed Universities during MCC counselling, subject to the applicable eligibility and reservation choice.
Central Pool: This means that when participating states in India contribute 15% of their eligible government medical college seats towards AIQ (All India Quota), these seats form the All India Quota pool.
Important Note: AIQ 15% and NRI quota are not exactly the same. AIQ refers to 15% All India Quota seats in participating government medical colleges, while NRI quota is available in Deemed Universities and can also be available in selected private/state counselling structures according to their rules.

MCC conducts counselling for 100% seats of participating Deemed Universities, out of which 15% seats are allocated to NRI candidates under the 2026 counselling framework.
NRI students should not treat NRI Quota and AIQ as the same admission route. If government medical colleges are your priority, eligible candidates can compete for General AIQ seats through MCC. If NRI quota is your priority, NRI category seats are available in Deemed Universities and may also be available through applicable state/private counselling structures.
Remaining state quota seats are governed by the respective state counselling rules, domicile rules and reservation policies. NRI eligibility under state quota or state/private NRI quota can differ from one state to another.

NRI Quota 2026: MCC Document Verification Process
For UG Counselling 2026, MCC follows an online process for submitting and verifying NRI documents before a candidate is considered under the NRI category. Families planning to apply through the NRI route should keep the required documents ready well in advance, as access to NRI seat choices depends on successful document verification.
