Karnataka government medical colleges are far more affordable than private and deemed medical institutions. According to the KEA provisional fee structure for 2025–26, several state government medical colleges charged approximately ₹64,350 per year. ESIC and specially notified seat categories may have different fees.

Government medical seats in Karnataka are not allotted from one single pool. The route depends on the college, seat category and candidate’s eligibility.

Karnataka government medical colleges mainly allot seats through the All India Quota and state merit categories. A limited number of NRI seats were introduced from additional government MBBS seats in 2025–26, while a broader 15% NRI quota proposal with fees of around ₹25 lakh per year had not been confirmed.
Students should check the latest KEA seat matrix for a specific NRI seat code and should not assume that every government medical college offers NRI seats. The NRI quota in private medical colleges is separate from any NRI category notified in government colleges.

BMCRI, Mysore Medical College and other highly preferred institutions usually close earlier than newer colleges or institutions outside major cities. Students should compare closing ranks rather than relying only on marks.

Consider an Indian-origin student completing Grade 12 in New Jersey. The family has relatives in Bengaluru and assumes the student can claim a Karnataka government seat because the parents previously lived in the state. That assumption may be incorrect.
Before filling choices, the family must confirm Karnataka eligibility, AIQ participation, citizenship or OCI implications, the current KEA seat matrix, U.S. subject equivalence and the required overseas-status documents.
