What we offer

If you want STAAR Math prep, here is what TestPrepKart puts on the table.

texasassessment.gov already publishes the official calendar, redesign notes, Family Portal, and Quantile explainers. Our job is different: turn your child’s Math report into a simple weekly TEKS plan, with live tutoring options you can book.

Free STAAR diagnostic demo

Bring the Family Portal / student report if you have it. We read performance level and Math strands, then leave a written gap plan for the next window.

What it is

STAAR measures TEKS mastery for Texas accountability.

Every STAAR Math question is built to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills. That is why Texas families should not rely on a pure Common Core worksheet pile.

State-required

Districts administer STAAR in the spring window TEA publishes. Makeup days sit inside the local schedule.

TEKS, not CCSS

Wording, emphasis, and some topics differ from Common Core states. We coach to TEKS language.

Online first

STAAR is administered primarily online, with paper or braille when a student is eligible.

Who · register · fees

Most students take STAAR because the Texas school already scheduled it.

If you are hunting for a parent checkout page on TEA, you are usually in the wrong place. Use this table, then ask your campus portal.

EligibilityStudents enrolled in Texas public schools (and other programs that administer STAAR) in Grades 3-8 Math or Algebra I EOC.
How to registerNo parent self-registration. The school/testing coordinator assigns students inside the TEA window.
FeesTypical public-school STAAR: no parent test fee to TEA. Private programs may bundle assessment costs. TestPrepKart tutoring is optional and priced on each grade hub in USD.
Grades 3-8 MathGrade-level Math STAAR each spring. Science/social studies sit on other STAAR subjects.
Algebra I EOCEnd-of-course exam when the student takes Algebra I. Retest opportunities exist; ask the school.
Our coaching bandTestPrepKart focuses on Grades 3-10 for US/Texas families, including NRI and Indian-origin students, with Indian faculty teaching in English.
How it works

Spring window, school day, TEKS items.

TEA designs sessions so most students finish in about three hours; students who need more time may continue to the end of the school day. Exact dates come from your district inside TEA’s window.

Spring focus

Main Grades 3-8 Math in spring. EOC has additional summer/fall chances.

Released items

TEA releases prior spring forms. We use item style for familiarity, not as a score promise.

Accommodations

IEP/504 accommodations are school-managed. Tell us what is approved so practice matches the day.

Official calendar · redesign

Use the state site for dates. Use us for the prep plan.

Parents often land on texasassessment.gov for the testing calendar and STAAR redesign explainers. That is the right place for official dates and design changes. Here is the simple parent version, plus what TestPrepKart adds.

TopicWhat the official site coversWhat we add for Math prep
Testing calendar TEA / texasassessment.gov publish windows. Grades 3-8 Math is mainly spring; Algebra I EOC also has other opportunities. We count backward from your campus window and build an 8-12 week TEKS plan (or a shorter triage plan if you are late).
STAAR redesign STAAR was redesigned to look more like classroom work and to emphasize writing / explaining, with parent resources on the state site. Practice includes redesigned item feel: multi-step Math, tech-enhanced styles where useful, and short explanations, not only bubble sheets.
Family Portal After testing, the Family Portal (unique student access code) shows scores, strengths/needs, and for spring STAAR often each scored question. Bring the portal report or PDF to the demo. We turn strand gaps into a weekly tutoring menu.

Official links for parents: texasassessment.gov/staar.html (overview), staar-about.html (calendar context), redesign-resources.html, and the Family Portal FAQ. Always confirm exact dates with your school.

After the test

Scores arrive. Then parents ask: what do we do this week?

The state site explains how to open the Family Portal and read the report. The missing piece for most families is a calm next step in Math, not another PDF.

1. Open the report

Use the unique access code on the student report card. English and Spanish Family Portal views are available on the state site.

2. Name the Math gaps

Look at performance level plus which Math categories are thin. For spring STAAR you may also see item-level answers.

3. Book a plan session

In our free demo we convert that report into 2-3 priority TEKS skills, a practice rhythm, and a tutoring format (1:1, group, or packs).

Scores · Quantile

Approaches is a pass. Meets, Masters, and Quantile tell you where to coach.

TEA maps scale scores to four performance levels. Math reports may also include Quantile measures that describe Math readiness. Cut scores change by grade and year; we read your child’s report instead of quoting a universal number.

LevelPlain EnglishHow we use it
Did Not MeetNot yet at the Approaches barUrgent gap plan on foundational TEKS

MeetsStronger readiness for next gradePolish multi-step and application items
MastersHigh performance across contextsMaintain fluency; stretch carefully

Policy definitions follow TEA performance standards pages. Quantile explainers live on texasassessment.gov/staar-quantile. We do not invent guaranteed score jumps.

Parent tips

Help without hovering over answers.

  • Protect sleep the week of testing; tired kids miss multi-step items.
  • Frame STAAR as a check of school learning, not a family emergency.
  • Do not feed answers on practice sets. Ask what the question is asking.
  • Confirm accommodations with the school early.
Student reviewing math homework in the evening with a notebook and laptop
Evening practice should be short and calm, not a second school day.
Parent and child reviewing school progress together
Parents use STAAR levels in conferences and promotion conversations.
Why it matters

Schools use STAAR for accountability. Families use it for clarity.

A useful STAAR story is clear: which TEKS strands are solid, which need work before the next grade or Algebra I EOC, and what weekly practice will change.

  • Shows grade-level TEKS performance in four levels
  • Informs intervention and course placement conversations
  • Algebra I EOC sits on the Texas high-school testing path
NRI · Indian-origin families

Texas campuses, Indian faculty, English instruction.

Many of our Texas families are Indian-origin or NRI. Tutors teach in English on US/Texas pacing and explain TEKS wording without assuming you grew up with STAAR.

FAQ

Questions parents ask about STAAR Math

Do parents register and pay for STAAR?

No parent self-registration for standard school STAAR. The district schedules the spring window (and EOC makeups). Public-school families typically do not pay TEA a per-student STAAR fee. Tutoring fees are separate if you hire TestPrepKart.

Where do we register?

Through the school. Ask the campus testing coordinator or parent portal for the exact dates in the TEA testing calendar window. Homeschool or private programs that participate will give you their own process.

What do Approaches, Meets, and Masters mean?

TEA reports four levels: Did Not Meet, Approaches, Meets, and Masters Grade Level. Approaches or higher is a pass. Meets and Masters signal stronger readiness for the next grade. We never invent a cut score for your child; we read the report you already have.

Is STAAR the same as MAP Growth?

No. MAP is an interim adaptive check many districts also use. STAAR is Texas’s state accountability test tied to TEKS. Families often use fall/winter MAP or classroom data to aim STAAR prep, but they are different programs.

Which grades do you support for STAAR Math?

Grades 3-8 Math and Algebra I EOC for students on that path. Use the grade guide on this page, then open that grade hub for syllabus depth.

How early should we start?

Eight to twelve weeks of steady TEKS-aligned work is common when the last report showed clear gaps. If the window is sooner, we still start with the highest-leverage skills instead of cramming the whole grade.

Do you teach Common Core or TEKS?

For Texas STAAR families we teach to TEKS item language and the school’s pacing. Our master curriculum maps across states; the tutor adjusts wording and emphasis for STAAR.

Can you guarantee a Masters score?

No honest tutor can. We can show a gap plan, practice rhythm, and progress notes. Score outcomes depend on starting point, attendance, and school instruction.

Where do I find the official testing calendar and Family Portal?

Start at texasassessment.gov (STAAR pages). The school also publishes local dates inside TEA’s window. Family Portal access uses the student’s unique code on the report. We help you turn that report into a weekly Math plan; we do not host the official portal.

What is a Quantile measure on the Math report?

Quantile is a Math readiness framework that can appear with STAAR Math results. It helps describe the difficulty of skills your child is ready for. In the demo we translate Quantile / performance level language into concrete TEKS topics for tutoring, not into a jargon lecture.

Is a calculator allowed on STAAR Math?

Texas rules vary by grade and subject. Many Grade 8 and Algebra I STAAR Math administrations allow a calculator on the whole test or designated parts. Confirm the current TEA / campus policy and practice with the same calculator type.
