How a topic pack works

Pick the hours, name the topics, finish in a few weeks

No year-long commitment. You choose 5 or 10 hours on the form so we know which pack to plan.

1

Choose duration

5 hours ($120) for one tight skill, or 10 hours ($240) when two skills need work.

2

Name the topics

Fractions, times tables, place value, area/perimeter, homework rescue, or a short test warm-up.

3

Book the hours

We schedule live 1:1 slots in your US time zone and send a short plan after the first session.

Common Grade 3 pack ideas

Topics parents usually book

You can mix these inside a 5 or 10 hour pack. Your counselor locks the sequence on the planning call.

Times-tables fluency

Equal groups, arrays, and multiply/divide within 100 until facts stop feeling random.

Fractions on the number line

Unit fractions, simple equivalence, and compare-with-same-numerator stories.

Place value to 1,000

Round to 10/100 and add/subtract within 1,000 with place-value strategies.

Area and perimeter

Area as tiling and length × width, plus perimeter of polygons before spring tests.

Homework rescue week

Bring the school packet. We clear the stuck pages and rebuild the weak skill.

State-test warm-up

Short Grade 3 style sets plus repair on the two topics that keep missing.

Unit details for parents and students

What each Common Core unit covers

Topic packs still sit inside Grade 3 Common Core. Use this map to name the unit you want in a 5 or 10 hour pack: why it matters, what we teach, what mastery looks like, and a parent tip.

OA

Operations and Algebraic Thinking

Jun-Jul, Jan focus

Why this unit matters

This is the major work of Grade 3. If multiplication and division stay shaky, Grade 4 fractions and multi-digit work get much harder.

What mastery looks like

  • Explains a product using a picture or array, not only a memorized fact
  • Solves two-step problems and names which operation comes first
  • Recalls most facts within 100 with growing speed by mid-year

What we teach

  • Meaning of multiplication as equal groups and arrays
  • Division as sharing and as finding unknown factors
  • Fluency with multiply and divide within 100
  • Properties (commutative, associative, distributive) in student-friendly language
  • Two-step word problems with +, -, ×, ÷
  • Arithmetic patterns and input-output tables

Parent tip: Ask your child to draw the story before computing. If they can show 3 groups of 4, the fact 3×4 sticks faster.

NBT

Number and Operations in Base Ten

Aug, school-sync months

Why this unit matters

Place value to 1,000 is the bridge from Grade 2 adding to multi-digit work. Rounding and fluent add/subtract keep homework from becoming a fight.

What mastery looks like

  • Explains why 347 is closer to 350 or 300 when rounding
  • Adds/subtracts three-digit numbers without always relying on fingers
  • Catches an unreasonable answer by estimating first

What we teach

  • Place value: hundreds, tens, ones to 1,000
  • Read, write, and compare three-digit numbers
  • Round to the nearest 10 or 100
  • Add and subtract within 1,000 using place-value strategies
  • Relate addition and subtraction for checking work

Parent tip: Have them read house numbers, receipts, and game scores aloud in hundreds-tens-ones. Real numbers beat worksheets alone.

NF

Number and Operations, Fractions

Oct-Nov, Feb deepen

Why this unit matters

Grade 3 is the first year fractions are treated as numbers on the number line. This unit decides whether Grade 4 fraction operations feel possible.

What mastery looks like

  • Places a fraction like 3/4 on a number line and explains why
  • Recognizes when two fractions name the same amount
  • Compares 2/5 and 2/8 without guessing from the bigger bottom number

What we teach

  • Unit fractions (1/2, 1/3, 1/4, …) as equal parts of a whole
  • Fractions on the number line between 0 and 1
  • Simple equivalence (for example 1/2 = 2/4)
  • Compare fractions with the same numerator or same denominator
  • Fraction word problems tied to real sharing stories

Parent tip: Use pizza, chocolate bars, or measuring cups. Keep the whole the same size when you compare, or kids invent false rules.

MD

Measurement and Data

Nov-Dec

Why this unit matters

Time, graphs, area, and perimeter show up on every state-style test and in daily school life. Area also prepares the × connection kids need later.

What mastery looks like

  • Finds how much time passed from 3:15 to 3:50 without counting on fingers only
  • Reads a scaled bar graph and answers a two-step question
  • Finds area of a rectangle two ways: tiling and length × width

What we teach

  • Tell and write time to the nearest minute; elapsed time
  • Measure and estimate liquid volumes and masses (liters, grams, kilograms)
  • Draw and read scaled picture graphs and bar graphs
  • Area as covering with unit squares; area of rectangles as rows × columns
  • Perimeter of polygons; relate area and perimeter

Parent tip: Practice elapsed time with real schedules (soccer, screen time). Kitchen measuring is free MD practice.

G

Geometry

Mar review window

Why this unit matters

Shape language and equal-area partitions support fractions and later geometry. Short unit, but it closes gaps before spring tests.

What mastery looks like

  • Explains why a square is a rectangle, but not every rectangle is a square
  • Splits a shape into 4 equal parts and names each part 1/4
  • Sorts shapes by attributes without mixing up sides and corners

What we teach

  • Categories of shapes (quadrilaterals, rectangles, squares, rhombuses)
  • Shared attributes vs defining attributes
  • Partition shapes into equal areas and name the unit fraction of each part
  • Draw shapes with given attributes

Parent tip: Scavenger hunt at home: find rectangles, then ask which ones are also squares. Keep it playful.

  • 5 hours ($120): one skill, one unit test, or a homework rescue week
  • 10 hours ($240): two skills, or skill repair plus a short state-test warm-up
  • Hours are private 1:1, not shared group seats

FAQ

Questions parents ask before they book a topic pack

How much do Grade 3 topic packs cost in the US?

5 hours for $120 USD, or 10 hours for $240 USD ($24 per hour). Choose your duration on the form so we know which pack you want.

Is a topic pack 1:1 or group?

Topic packs are private 1:1 hours on the topics you name. Group and full-year 1:1 are separate course options.

How do I choose 5 hours vs 10 hours?

Pick 5 hours for one tight skill (for example times tables or a homework rescue). Pick 10 hours when two skills need work, or when you want a short test warm-up plus repair.

Can we use the hours across different topics?

Yes. In the planning call we lock a short sequence. Hours stay on Grade 3 work you approve.

Do unused hours expire?

Your counselor confirms the completion window when you enroll. Packs are meant to finish in a few weeks, not stretch across a full year.

What language are classes taught in?

English, for US school students.

Do you coach NRI students in the United States for Grade 3 math?

Yes. We coach Grade 3 math for US school students nationwide, and we specifically support NRI and Indian-origin families in the United States. Our Indian faculty teach US curriculum topics in English, which helps many NRI students understand basic principles more clearly while staying aligned to Common Core and school pacing.
