Which Universities Prefer IB? US or UK?
Which Universities prefer IB? The US or The UK? Do you also dream of taking admission in foreign universities? If yes, then you must choose right curriculum at the high school level. One of such programs is International Baccalaureate (IB) that is an internationally recognized curriculum. Introduction to IB IB is a globally recognized academic program administered by IBO, Switzerland. There are 4 types of IB programs but to take admission into universities you need to study IB Diploma Program. The reason for choosing IB Diploma is that it increases your chances of getting admission in foreign universities. There are a lot of universities which highly prefer IB students but at the same time, there are some universities which do not give that much credit to IB. To choose IB Diploma is largely based on in which university you want to take admission to. There are two main study destinations in the world preferred by students which are US and UK universities. So, here we are going to discuss the importance of IB program for both US and UK universities. US Universities As per a survey conducted by IBO, admission acceptance rate of IB students is higher by 18% as compared to total population rate. IB students with good scores have a higher chance of getting admission in top-ranked US universities. Also, most of the US universities give credit for diploma program subjects if you have achieved a good score. There are numerous reasons why US universities prefer IB students over rest of the population. US universities emphasize the breadth of knowledge which means that you should be able to apply your concepts in solving real-life problems. IB is considered as a pre-university course as it prepares you very well for academic life in universities. IB also involves students to engage in the community under its CAS core element. IB also enhances your writing skills as it requires a lot of writing in terms of the extended essay and other research work. It also makes students self-disciplined as it requires a lot of independent studies and research work. IB needs you to perform well in all subjects which makes you more knowledgeable. A good IB score gives your picture as a student and your performance in academics. Universities do understand the hard work and dedication that you give to score higher grades. Since IB aims towards holistic development of the students and hence it works quite well for US universities which look out for qualities such as leadership, research abilities and social & community activities. UK Universities While US universities highly prefer IB students whereas this is not the same with UK universities. UK universities prefer depth over breadth of knowledge which means that they will look out for your hold and knowledge of the subject. They prefer students who are involved in activities related to their subjects. Though UK universities do understand your hard work to achieve that score still it doesn’t add value to your admission application. Most of the UK universities will consider your scores in specific high-level subjects over your overall IBDP score. For example, if you want to take admission in English Literature in Oxford University then you must have an overall score of 38+ along with at least 6 in HL subjects. In a Nutshell There is no harm in doing IB Diploma as both US and UK universities understand the hard work and dedication you have given to IB, but more preference is given by the US. So, if you aim to get admission in US universities then certainly go for IB Diploma Program but if you are aiming for UK universities then there are other courses as well. Remember that universities always look out for the overall calibre of the student. IB Coaching Centers:
