10 Things to Do before Starting IB Preparation
Since now you are going to start your IB, you must be surrounded by certain myths and rumors that might have made you nervous. A change of any sort can elicit different responses from individuals, especially when on the other side they do not know what to expect. In such circumstances, a person might feel a number of emotions, the good ones being pleasure, curiosity, and excitement. Students, on the other hand, maybe afraid, anxious, and apprehensive. Moving to IB can be somewhat similar, especially because you have ideas of what to expect, but you really don't know what the experience would be like. But if you are prepared for IB then you don’t have to worry about it if you keep a few things in mind and follow some rules. In order to ease your nervousness, we have listed down some points that you need to keep in mind for the smooth preparation of IB. Before starting the IB program, you will have to choose subjects. Find subjects that you are genuinely interested in and take a look at the syllabus. Try to find out the subjects that you like and where you would be able to give your 100 percent. So, be prepared in advance with an understanding of the IB subjects that you have chosen. The thing to remember is that in the IB, everybody faces various obstacles and everybody has various abilities. Importantly, there is no IB student who makes it plain. Becoming conscious of what to expect will make the change next year even smoother. Try to predict in order to do this: Subjects that are more important or hard. Subjects that should be spent more time. Subjects that you like. If you have chosen a subject that you have never learned before then do research on that subject. Get know-how about the subjects, their topics, and what you will get to learn in it. Research about the subject and learn it in advance so that you can easily get your doubts cleared in your class itself. IB Students (Diploma Programme Year) have the following 6 subject groups to choose one subject from one group: 1. Studies in language and literature After choosing your subjects in the diploma program year (HL & SL), The next step comes to check the HL & SL syllabus of a particular subject. It’s an important point to check and analyze the syllabus of all subjects you have chosen for the. You can find HL & SL (Diploma Programme year syllabus list here: Since most of the subjects would be English and you will have to write a lot so it's important to polish up your skills If English is not your native language. You can do the same by reading English books, watching English movies, and also by talking to your peers in English as much as possible. Also, since you have to study language B so it’s again important to polish your language B skills. Again, you can do the same by watching that language’s shows and reading books in that language. Language B will always be a different language (the Foreign language) from your mother language. It depends on your school which different language they want you to learn with them. If your Native language is English then other languages (Polish, Spanish, French, Arabic, Dutch, German, Chinese) can be used as your Language B. IB consists of CAS as one of its three core elements which means that you will have to take up extracurricular activities to perform community services. CAS aims at the tasks done beyond your classroom and hence it's important to explore such options that you can take up as your CAS project in IB. Whenever you find a difficulty or get any doubt, then don’t hesitate to take help from others. You can consult your teachers as well as your friends and peers. You can also take the help of the internet in getting your queries resolved. You get to hear a lot of stories about IB that might scare but don’t pay attention to them. Don’t make up your mind with such stories but ignore them. Though IB is not a piece of cake but then worrying about it will also not help. So, be prepared for dedicated and focused IB studies.
