All About Work, Energy, Power & Collision - Download Notes (JEE Main)

What is Work ?

Work is the transfer of energy when a force is applied to move an object over a distance. It is calculated by multiplying the force applied in the direction of displacement by the distance. Work can be positive, negative, or zero depending on the alignment of force and displacement. It relates to the transfer or transformation of energy and is measured in joules. The work-energy theorem states that work done on an object causes a change in its kinetic energy.

What is Energy ?

Energy is the capacity to do work or cause changes in a system. It exists in various forms such as kinetic, potential, thermal, and more. Energy can be transferred and transformed but cannot be created or destroyed (conservation of energy). The unit of energy is the joule (J). Understanding energy is crucial for understanding the behavior of physical systems and has applications in multiple fields.

What is Power ?

Power measures the rate at which work is done or energy is transferred. It is calculated by dividing work by time. The unit of power is the watt (W). Higher power signifies faster energy transfer or work done. Power is important in evaluating efficiency and understanding the performance of various systems and machines.

What is Collision ?

Collisions involve objects coming into contact and exerting forces on each other. They can be elastic (conserving kinetic energy and momentum) or inelastic (resulting in some energy loss). Conservation of momentum and energy govern collisions. Impulse is the change in momentum during a collision. Studying collisions helps understand real-world scenarios and has applications in physics and engineering.
