School Of Engineering Tezpur (SOE Tezpur) is a part of Tezpur University. It was established in 2006. While Tezpur University was established in 1994 by an act of Parliament.

The establishment of Tezpur University is considered to be one of the outcomes of the Assam Accord, along with the establishment of Assam University and the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati.

Initially, the university operated from the premises of the Darrang College, in Tezpur. For a while, it also operated from the Tezpur Law College premises. The land was acquired at Napalm, a suburb, which is about 15 km (9.3 mi) east of Tezpur, an area totaling 262 acres (106 ha). A few months later, the premises of the University was shifted to the present permanent location.
