It was way back in 1966 that the Municipal Arts College came into existence by the great efforts of late Shri F.M.Hasabi, Shri L.S.Patil, Shri S.F.Patil, Shri.Chambanna, Shri Nandi and a few others. These lovers of education, with their foresight, tireless efforts, selfless services and with a zeal to import quality education to the drought prone rural poor, wished and dreamed that this college should come up as a model college in this part of North-Karnataka.
The college is affiliated to Karnataka University, Dharwad and is recognized under section 2f and 12B of the U.G.C Act in 1972. Our college is located in an economically backward rural area. In1966 the college began functioning by offering only Arts course with 18 students. In 1971, the degree course in Commerce was introduced. It was on 22nd March 1986, the college was handed over to the Government of Karnataka with the effort of the present Member of Legislative Assembly, Shri B.R. Yavagal. The college introduced B.Sc. course in the year 1989. Now the college has developed widely and achieved the academic excellence in all fields of activities. In the year 2003 the college has been accredited by NAAC with “B+” Grade and reaccredited in the year 2010 with “B” Grade. In the year 2011 -12 Post graduate courses in Commerce, Mathematics, Physics and History were started. Hence, at present the college is renamed as Shri Siddeshwar Government First Grade College and P.G Studies Centre, Nargund. At present the college has a total strength of 1333 students in UG and 96 students in PG courses. The college has 28 permanent teachers out of which 07 hold Doctorate degrees. 69 guest lecturers serve for the success of this institution. At present, with adequate facilities and resources the College is running B.A, B.Com, B.Sc. and Postgraduate courses in Mathematics, Physics, Commerce and History which facilitate the rural new generation youth towards the knowledge of new era.
