Early college-path Math on the digital suite. This page is the counselor manual: PSAT 8/9 vs PSAT/NMSQT, how adaptive Math modules work, and why National Merit talk belongs to the junior NMSQT, not every fall PSAT.
College Board already owns Bluebook, student guides, and score reports. Our job is different: strengthen Grades 8-10 Math domains for PSAT 8/9 or PSAT/NMSQT, and keep National Merit talk honest (junior NMSQT only).

| PSAT/NMSQT scale | Total 320-1520 · Math section 160-760 |

PSAT Math is not a contest olympiad and not yet the Digital SAT admissions sitting. It is the suite's earlier Math rehearsal with real score reports parents can use.
| Eligibility | Students in the grades the school designates for PSAT 8/9 or PSAT/NMSQT. Product names and grade bands vary by campus. |
|---|---|
| How to register | Usually through the school. Ask the counselor for the date, device plan (Bluebook), and whether it is 8/9 or NMSQT. |
| Fees | Often covered or coordinated by the school. Confirm any student fee locally. TestPrepKart tutoring is separate USD pricing on grade hubs. |
| Our coaching band | Grades 8-10 Math domains, Indian faculty teaching in English, with clear National Merit timing advice. |
Earlier suite check. Total 240-1440. Geometry domain without trigonometry emphasis per College Board specs.
Later suite check. Total 320-1520. Includes Geometry and Trigonometry content aligned to the broader suite.
Module 1: 35 minutes. Module 2: 35 minutes. About 20 operational + 2 pretest questions per module. Multiple choice and student-produced responses. Calculator allowed on all Math questions.
Algebra and Advanced Math carry heavy weight across the suite. Data analysis and geometry (plus trig on NMSQT/SAT) still decide many score gaps for Grades 8-10.

Many schools give PSAT 8/9 in Grade 8 or 9. It is practice for the suite, not National Merit.

Grade 9 is often still PSAT 8/9. Treat it as a diagnostic for Algebra I and data skills, not a scholarship hunt.

Sophomore PSAT/NMSQT is useful practice. National Merit Scholarship Program uses the junior-year PSAT/NMSQT Selection Index, not Grade 10 scores.

A useful PSAT Math story is which domains are solid, which need work, and whether junior-year NMSQT should be on the long calendar.
Many of our Grades 8-10 families are Indian-origin or NRI hearing PSAT and National Merit in the same sentence for the first time. We separate those ideas, coach Math domains in English, and keep Algebra/Geometry course prep aligned.
A live 1:1 Math session. Your child works suite-style items. You leave with a written plan for 8/9 or NMSQT.
Both are College Board digital suite tests with Reading and Writing plus Math. PSAT 8/9 is an earlier check (score scale 240-1440). PSAT/NMSQT is typically for Grades 10-11 (scale 320-1520) and is the test used for National Merit when taken in Grade 11.
No. National Merit Scholarship Corporation uses the junior-year PSAT/NMSQT Selection Index. PSAT 8/9 does not qualify students for National Merit.
Math has two modules of 35 minutes each (70 minutes total) with 44 questions (including a few unscored pretest items). Module 2 difficulty adapts based on Module 1 performance. Calculator is allowed throughout Math.
Four domains: Algebra, Advanced Math, Problem-Solving and Data Analysis, and Geometry (PSAT 8/9) / Geometry and Trigonometry (PSAT/NMSQT). Items are multiple choice and student-produced response.
Usually the school administers PSAT tests on a school day. Ask the counselor for the date. Some students may have weekend options depending on school/College Board offerings; confirm locally.
For PSAT/NMSQT, NMSC Selection Index = (2 × Reading and Writing section score + Math section score) / 10. State semifinalist cutoffs change by year and state. We do not invent a cutoff for your child.
Same suite family and similar Math domains/adaptive design, but different score scales and stakes. Digital SAT is the college admissions test. See our Digital SAT Math page for that path.
No. Cutoffs vary by state and year, and eligibility centers on the junior PSAT/NMSQT. We can build Math domain strength and digital pacing.
