How a topic pack works

Pick the hours, name the topics, finish in a few weeks

No year-long commitment. You choose 5 or 10 hours on the form so we know which pack to plan.

1

Choose duration

5 hours ($120) for one tight skill, or 10 hours ($240) when two skills need work.

2

Name the topics

Hub topics: 7.RP percent, 7.NS rationals, 7.EE equations, 7.G circles/angles, homework rescue, or a short test warm-up.

3

Book the hours

We schedule live 1:1 slots in your US time zone and send a short plan after the first session.

Common Grade 7 pack ideas

Topics parents usually book

You can mix these inside a 5 or 10 hour pack. Your counselor locks the sequence on the planning call.

7.RP Proportions and percent

Constant of proportionality, percent of/change, and multi-step tax tip markup stories.

7.NS Rational number ops

Add, subtract, multiply, and divide positives and negatives with meaning, not only sign rules.

7.EE Linear expressions

Expand, factor, and rewrite linear expressions with rational coefficients.

7.EE Equations and inequalities

Multi-step equations and inequalities from word problems, with checks and graphs.

7.G Circles and angles

Scale drawings, circumference and area, and angle relationship puzzles.

Homework or state-test rescue

Bring the school packet or a short Grade 7 style set. We clear stuck percent, integer, or equation pages.

7.RP

Ratios and Proportional Relationships

Major early stretch (~24%): proportional relationships, constant of proportionality, percent
24% of the Grade 7 year · Proportional relationships · 1 hub chapter · 3 standards

Chapters and standards (from the Grade 7 hub syllabus)

7.RP.A Major

Analyze proportional relationships and use them to solve real-world and mathematical problems.

  • 7.RP.A.1
    Unit rates with fractions

Unit rates now include fractions in both quantities: miles per 1/2 hour becomes miles per hour with care.

  • 7.RP.A.2
    Proportional relationships

Proportional relationships show a constant rate in tables, equations y = kx and graphs through the origin.

  • 7.RP.A.3
    Percent problems

Percent problems: tax, tip, markdown, percent increase and decrease. Grade 7 expects flexible methods, not one memorized trick.

What mastery looks like

  • Computes unit rates with fractional quantities
  • Decides if a table or graph shows a proportional relationship and finds the constant
  • Solves multi-step percent problems (tax, tip, markup, discount) with a clear method

Common stumble

Calling every straight line through the origin “proportional” without checking the table, or percent of vs percent change mix-ups.

Parent tip: Receipts and sale tags are free 7.RP practice. Ask them to show the constant before the answer.

7.NS

The Number System

Rational number operations (~22%): + − × ÷ with negatives and decimals/fractions together
22% of the Grade 7 year · Rational numbers · 1 hub chapter · 3 standards

Chapters and standards (from the Grade 7 hub syllabus)

7.NS.A Major

Apply and extend previous understandings of operations with fractions to add, subtract, multiply, and divide rational numbers.

  • 7.NS.A.1
    Add and subtract rational numbers

Adding and subtracting rational numbers, including negatives, uses number-line and chip models before rules.

  • 7.NS.A.2
    Multiply and divide rational numbers

Multiply and divide signed numbers. The sign rules must come with meaning, not only a chant.

  • 7.NS.A.3
    Rational-number word problems

Word problems with rational numbers mix signs, fractions and decimals in real contexts.

What mastery looks like

  • Adds and subtracts rational numbers with a number-line or chip model they can explain
  • Multiplies and divides rational numbers, including negatives, with correct sign rules tied to meaning
  • Converts between fractions, decimals, and percents fluently in a problem

Common stumble

Sign errors under subtraction of negatives, or changing only one sign in a long expression.

Parent tip: Temperature and elevator stories for add/subtract. Have them predict the sign before they compute.

7.EE

Expressions and Equations

Largest Grade 7 share (~26%): equivalent linear expressions and multi-step equations/inequalities
26% of the Grade 7 year · Expressions and equations · 2 hub chapters · 4 standards

Chapters and standards (from the Grade 7 hub syllabus)

7.EE.A Major

Use properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions.

  • 7.EE.A.1
Add, subtract, factor and expand linear expressions

Linear expressions: add, subtract, factor and expand. Equivalent forms make hard problems readable.

  • 7.EE.A.2
Rewrite expressions to understand a problem

Rewriting an expression can reveal meaning: 0.85p is p with a 15% discount.

7.EE.B Major

Solve real-life and mathematical problems using numerical and algebraic expressions and equations.

  • 7.EE.B.3
    Multi-step problems with rational numbers

Multi-step problems with positive and negative rationals. Estimation and reasonableness checks matter.

  • 7.EE.B.4
Equations and inequalities from word problems

Equations and inequalities from word problems, including forms like px + q = r and px + q < r.

What mastery looks like

  • Adds, subtracts, factors, and expands linear expressions with rational coefficients
  • Solves multi-step equations with rational numbers and checks the solution
  • Writes and solves inequalities from word problems and graphs the solution set

Common stumble

Distributing only to the first term, or flipping the inequality sign incorrectly when multiplying by a negative.

Parent tip: Ask them to expand and factor the same expression both ways. Checking by substitution should be automatic.

7.G

Geometry

Scale drawings, constructions, circles, and angle relationships (~14%)
14% of the Grade 7 year · Geometry · 2 hub chapters · 6 standards

Chapters and standards (from the Grade 7 hub syllabus)

7.G.A Major

Draw, construct, and describe geometrical figures and describe the relationships between them.

  • 7.G.A.1
    Scale drawings

Scale drawings: lengths scale by the scale factor; areas scale by its square. Students mix those up often.

  • 7.G.A.2
    Draw and construct geometric shapes

Drawing triangles from given conditions: when three lengths make a triangle, and when they do not.

  • 7.G.A.3
    Cross-sections of 3D figures

Slicing 3D figures: the cross-section of a cube can be a triangle, rectangle or hexagon depending on the cut.

7.G.B Major

Solve real-life and mathematical problems involving angle measure, area, surface area, and volume.

  • 7.G.B.4
    Circles: area and circumference

Circle area and circumference. Knowing which formula answers which question is half the battle.

  • 7.G.B.5
    Angle relationships

Angle relationships: vertical, adjacent, complementary, supplementary. Simple equations hide inside diagrams.

  • 7.G.B.6
Area, volume and surface area problems

Area, volume and surface area problems in real contexts: paint, packaging, aquariums.

What mastery looks like

  • Solves a scale-drawing problem and finds actual lengths
  • Finds circumference and area of circles and applies them in a real problem
  • Uses angle relationships (vertical, adjacent, complementary, supplementary) to find missing measures

Common stumble

Using diameter when the problem gives radius (or the reverse), or assuming every triangle is right.

Parent tip: Measure a round plate once for circumference vs diameter. The π relationship sticks after one real measure.

7.SP

Statistics and Probability

Sampling, comparing populations, and probability (~14%)
14% of the Grade 7 year · Probability and stats · 3 hub chapters · 8 standards

Chapters and standards (from the Grade 7 hub syllabus)

7.SP.A Major

Use random sampling to draw inferences about a population.

  • 7.SP.A.1
    Samples and populations

Samples represent populations only when they are chosen carefully. Bias is a Grade 7 vocabulary word with teeth.

  • 7.SP.A.2
    Inferences from random samples

Inferences from random samples: use sample statistics to estimate a population, with appropriate caution.

7.SP.B Major

Draw informal comparative inferences about two populations.

  • 7.SP.B.3
    Compare two data sets visually

Comparing two visual data displays: overlap, center and spread tell different stories.

  • 7.SP.B.4
Compare populations with center and variability

Compare populations using measures of center and variability, not only who has the higher mean.

7.SP.C Major

Investigate chance processes and develop, use, and evaluate probability models.

  • 7.SP.C.5
Probability as a number from 0 to 1

Probability is a number from 0 to 1. Impossible, unlikely, likely and certain sit on that scale.

  • 7.SP.C.6
    Experimental probability

Experimental probability from relative frequency approaches theoretical probability with more trials.

  • 7.SP.C.7
    Probability models

Probability models: uniform and non-uniform. List outcomes and assign probabilities that sum to 1.

  • 7.SP.C.8
    Compound events

Compound events: tree diagrams and organized lists for and/or situations.

What mastery looks like

  • Explains why a random sample is better than a convenience sample for inference
  • Compares two data sets using visual overlays and measures of center/variability
  • Assigns probabilities from 0 to 1 and approximates probability from relative frequency

Common stumble

Treating a tiny biased sample as the whole population, or thinking probability must be a percent only.

Parent tip: Coin/spinner experiments with a tally chart. Compare experimental results to the theoretical prediction.
