How the Digital SAT Is Scored (2026)
The Digital SAT produces a total score between 400 and 1600, made up of two equal section scores:
- Reading & Writing:200 to 800 (54 questions across 2 modules of 27 each)
- Mathematics:200 to 800 (44 questions across 2 modules of 22 each)
Your raw scoreis simply the count of correct answers. There is no deduction for wrong answers or blanks. The College Board then converts raw scores to scaled scores using a process called equating, which adjusts for slight differences in difficulty across test forms, ensuring a 650 on one test date means the same ability level as a 650 on another.
The Adaptive Module System: Why It Matters for Your Score
The most important thing to understand about the Digital SAT is its adaptive structure. Here's how it works:
- Module 1 (both R&W and Math) contains a mix of easy, medium, and hard questions.
- Your accuracy on Module 1 routes you to either a Hard or Easy Module 2.
- The Hard Module 2 pathallows scaled scores up to 800 per section.
- The Easy Module 2 pathcaps your section score at approximately 650 to 670, regardless of how many you answer correctly.
Bottom line:To break 1340 composite, you must be on the Hard path in both sections. This is why Module 1 accuracy is the single highest-leverage area for most test prep work.

SAT Superscore Calculator, How Superscoring Works
Most colleges, including all Ivy League schools, accept SAT superscoring, the practice of combining your highest section scores across multiple test dates.
Example:
- Attempt 1:R&W 650 + Math 700 = 1350
- Attempt 2:R&W 720 + Math 680 = 1400
- Superscore:720 + 700 = 1420
This means you should not worry about a lower score on one section dragging down your overall application, most colleges will only consider your best performance per section. If you retake and improve your weaker section, your composite superscore improves automatically.
Most students take the SAT 2 to 3 times. The first attempt establishes a baseline; the second typically produces the largest jump with targeted preparation; the third fine-tunes toward a goal score.
