NRI students and parents abroad who are looking to get admission in Indian engineering colleges are usually aware about DASA Scheme also knows as (Direct Admission Student Abroad).

What is CIWG (NRI Quota)
Under CIWG scheme - NRI students can get admission in premium Indian engineering colleges by writing SAT subject Test (valid till 2020-21) & JEE Main Rank (valid from 2021-22). CIWG scheme is a subset of DASA scheme.
CIWG is most important for NRIs in Gulf because only they can take advantage of this scheme unlike other NRIs around the world. Everybody else can only take advantage of DASA scheme. In addition, CIWG category students also need to be a very less fee for entire 4 year degree compared to DASA student.

JEE Score Needed For CIWG DASA Scheme
Starting 2021 on wards, NRI students seeking admission in NITs and other premiere engineering colleges in India except IIT are now suppose to write JEE Main. Previously students were asked to write SAT 2 instead of JEE Main, which is going to take effect from 2021 onward. Selection of students will be made on the basis of JEE Rank. DASA CIWG 2021 Update
According to the latest official notification released by DASA on 3rd April 2019, JEE Mains Rank will be mandatory from session 2021-22 onward for DASA / CIWG Eligibility. Hence, session 2020-21 will be the last year when SAT 2 Score will be considered. Note that this is just a notification given by DASA.
There might be an official circular on the way but for now this notification is all we have. For the NRI Students, who are looking forward to take admissions (under DASA / CIWG Quota) in NITs & CFIs of India, it can be a bit brainstorming. Stay connected with us for updates on this.
