Study Tips for Success in Engineering Entrance Exams
With the rise in the number of engineering colleges, the quantity and difficulty level of the engineering entrance examinations have also risen. Entrance examinations are conducted at the national, state, and, institution levels.
These entrance examinations provide engineering aspirants with the opportunity to get into their dream college or dream course. Generally, students need to appear for these exams after registering for them, which is followed up by counselling by the Counselling Authority.
Some of the engineering entrance examinations are JEE, MHT-CET, TJEE, KEAM, COMEDK UGET, TS EAMCET, BITSAT, VITEEE and other State-level engineering examinations. It is essential, however, that the candidate prepares for the exams in a clearly planned and systematic way.
Preparation Tips for Engineering Entrance Exams
1. Begin The Preparation Early:
One of the biggest mistakes candidates make is starting their entrance exam preparation too late, such as a month before the actual exam! Candidates must start preparing for these exams early, at least two years before the actual exam.
Two years of preparation along with studying the relevant subjects at school (Physics, chemistry, and mathematics) are good enough for cracking many engineering entrance examinations.
If one starts too late, it will increase a load of syllabus and stress for the aspirant.
2. Draw Up a Time Table:
The candidate must make a time table for themselves, as a discipline is what works in the long term.
On some days, one may not feel 100% motivated to study, but once the habit to study is built, it will become easy for the candidate to study.
The time table must not be too hard to follow, and the aspirant should keep some free time as well.
3. Knowing the Syllabus Inside-out:
Before diving into studying for the exam, the candidate must know the syllabus of the exam they are appearing for.
For engineering entrance exams, the syllabus of physics, chemistry, and mathematics of classes 11th and 12thare crucial.
4. Examining Previous Years’ Question Paper:
The candidate must thoroughly check the previous years’ question paper to know which questions are repetitive.
This will also help the candidate to know which are the areas from which most questions are asked. One will need to prepare those topics exhaustively to ensure full marks from those sections or topics.
5. Practising Sample Papers:
The candidate must get access to plenty of sample papers and previous years’ question papers.
One should attempt these regularly to get into the habit of attempting question papers, which will make the actual exam a little easier to deal with. When drawing up the timetable, the aspirant should use certain days as Sample Exam days.
6. Managing Time:
The purpose of practising sample papers goes beyond simply trying out the questions.
This practice also helps the candidate understand how much time it takes them to answer certain types of questions. If one kind of question takes too long, the candidate knows which areas they need to focus on.
Moreover, the aspirant must set a target each day;this could be a whole chapter or one subtopic.
7. Using Vacations as Study Time:
Engineering aspirants mustn't waste their precious time. Vacations must not mean all playtime.
They must use their school vacations as study time. Students should try to finish as much of the syllabus for the engineering entrance exam as soon as possible so that they have a lot of time to revise the syllabus and attempt question papers.
8. Clearing of Concepts:
The aspirant must focus on thorough and conceptual learning, rather than focus on rote learning.
The engineering entrance examination requires the candidate to have a clear understanding of the concepts of many subjects.
The candidates who will be future engineers need to know about the practical application of everything they learn, which is not possible by rote learning.
9. Do Not Neglect Other Activities:
In the process of preparing for engineering entrance exams, the aspirant must not neglect other activities and people in their life.
They should still participate in school activities and competitions, and they should still spend time with their family and go for outings. Ignoring their personal life may cause them to be depressed and anxious.
Family and friends can always provide them with comfort and help them be stress-free.
10. Stay Healthy and Keep a Fresh Mind:
The few days before the actual date of the exam are crucial not because you should frantically prepare for everything, but because you need to stay healthy and keep a fresh mind for the day of the exam.
Candidate must keep the essentials for exam ready a day before the exam, such as admit card, identity card, a pen, a clear water bottle, and anything else which the authority may spell out in their instructions.
